LD30 August 22–25, 2014

I’ll be in, again!

Hello everyone!

Although it’s almost here I didn’t say anything. Been enjoying voting themes and having a bad time trying not to have any ideas, so everything happens during the 48hrs!

So yeah, this will be my second Ludum Dare because I enjoyed my previous one (last Ludum Dare, in fact) and because I loved the community and being able to play other people’s games. This time I’ll enter the compo, instead of the jam, and I’m not sure I’ll have plenty of time. But well, I’ll try to enjoy!

I’ll probably be using:

  • Engine: Unity, for sure.
  • IDE: Visual Studio, since I’ll be doing it in C#. Will also use Sublime Text for other necessary stuff.
  • Graphics: Photoshop, Inkscape and 3ds max, in case I get to create a 3D game.
  • SFX, music: Audacity, Bfxr, Abundant Music.
  • Source control: Git for GitHub.

Looking forward to it! See you all there!

LD30 – Return of the Compo

I attempted and failed to jam for LD29, so this time I’m going to solo compo. I’ve already set aside the weekend, so I shouldn’t run into any more issues™.

My tools:

  • Unity (2D mode) + Either Sublime Text or Monodevelop
  • Pickle Editor (finally going to buy it!)
  • Photoshop if necessary
  • Some audio creation loopy software. I’m no good at that.

Getting ready for my fourth compo!

Not quite sure which theme I’m hoping for or what sort of game it’ll be, but I’ve been watching a lot of Twilight Zone lately… that might work. I was thinking I’d try to do a Twine game this time, I’ve never done any interactive fiction.

If I can get it up and running I plan to throw the Unity web player at it some how and see if I can get them to stick together. That should do it for the “Connected Worlds” theme at least 😛

Using:

  • Twine
  • Unity
  • Blender
  • Gimp

Back in action

After a while without participating, I’m returning for the 12th anniversary of Ludum Dare. =)

The tools I’ll use:

  • Programming: Java language + Eclipse IDE (Luna) + LibGdx framework;
  • Version control: Bitbucket;
  • Graphics: Wacom Bamboo Capture + Photoshop Elements;
  • Sound & Music: to be decided.

The game will be deployed as a desktop application (Windows, Mac, Linux) and if it makes sense, I might make an Android version after the event has ended.

Have a lot of fun, everyone. =D

My Base Code for LD 30

Once again I will be using my base code that I have built up since LD 26. Except for an additional timer class, the base code is identical to the one I used for LD 29. It is written in JavaScript and can be used to create HTML5/canvas games. You can find the base code on github: https://github.com/ZYXer-/ludum-dare-base-code

Features:
– a simple game loop (now with an integrated timer)
– mouse/keyboard input processing
– image/sound preloading

Additional classes for:
– playing sounds (using SoundManager2)
– loading and displaying PNG fonts
– particle systems
– pathfinding (using A*)
– synchronization with server (see below) including a simple login & sign up screen

My base code also includes a simple server (written in PHP), which could be used to synchronize things like highscores, but which is definitely not suitable for a real-time online game.

I’m distributing the code under the GPL2 license, so feel free to use any part of it for your own project. And please – like always – report any bugs 😉

Back once again…

I liked totally flopped on LD28, I was requisitioned to Edinburgh for super-hero duties for LD29, and finally I’m back, ready and willing for LD30.

And here my declaration of intent:

  • I intend to make a game this weekend in 48 hours, from scratch, including all code, graphics, and sounds
  • I will be using:
    • Paint Shop Pro, and Adobe Flash CS5  for graphics
    • OpenFL + Haxe – for cross platform development
    • Audacity – to process whatever sounds I can cobble together
    • Flash Develop – as a development environment

That about covers it. I thought about giving Unity ago, but hell, I’ve got a template now, and I’d rather churn out ideas with my own limitations then mess around with new tools. Call me old fashioned. 😀

Good luck everyone!

Wow. You’re in nearly the same position as me, doing all the LDs from LD23 onwards until messing up LDs 28 and 29 and now trying for LD30. Hopefully we both get through this one!

I’m feeling good about this LD already, I’m sure it’ll be great :)

Halflemon Studios reporting in!

Not to be confused with an actual professional studio and named after the infamous “Half lemon joke” we are ready to Jam!

4th game so far, all in Ludum Dares because Ludum Dare is awesome in an unparallelled magnitude!

We’ll be using FlashDevelop —> ActionScript 3 to make the game for Flash Player so people won’t have to bother downloading. For sounds it’ll be Audacity and whatever black magic Music Guy conjures his awesome tracks up with. For graphics, it’ll be GIMP, Photoshop, Illustrator… possibly paper and a scanner… and MS Paint because why not? :)
This will be our most awesome game so far, I can feel it!

Good luck everyone!
Especially us! :)

Basecode Post

Here is some basecode written for LOVE+Lua. See ya’ll on the other side!

Declaration of personal libraries

So I’ve never done this before, but I might try it.  I noticed the rules say we must say if we are using our own code base, so here it is, all publicly accessible: https://github.com/JaidenK/MyUtilities

I’ll Try My Best

I’m gonna give it a try.

I might program a text adventure using just Haskell if the topic fits so there won’t be any graphic elements in my game.
Maybe I’ll add some music to it if I’ve got time left.

Good luck to all of you!

Cool! It’s not often I hear about functional programming languages being used in games. I’ve heard of someone programming a first-person shooter in Haskell, so there’s definitely a lot of potential in this area. Good luck to you.

Cool! Maybe next year you could try using Haskell with SDL bindings. I seem to remember they’re out there. No idea how efficient it is.

I’m in…

Hello!
My first Ludum Dare (If i get ready in 48h ). Im very excited. 😀
My Setup:

  • Game Maker
  • Creative Suite
  • sfxr & GoldWave

Good luck everyone!

I’m in! (hopefully)

This time i will be doing Ludum Dare for my fourth time! I had some bad timing with the last Ludum Dare a couldn’t participate, but this time i’m sure i have time.

My tools i will be using, i think

  • Engine: Unity
  • IDE: MonoDevelop
  • Language: C#
  • “Graphics”: Paint.NET and/or Photoshop
  • SFX: Bfxr, cgMusic

I’m in!

This will be my 3rd time entering the Ludum Dare, would be my 4th but last LD was during prom.

Depending on the theme, I’ll either use Unity3D, XNA, or Java with Eclipse.

For art I’ll probably just use MSPaint

My sound effects are quite phenomenal, all of them are made with my mouth.

I’m in.

This is my third Ludum Dare. I’ll probably choose the jam over the compo, but this depends on the theme (I’m not really an artist).

Setup is:

  • GameMaker Studio or Construct 2
  • Photoshop CC
  • sfxr

Fifth time’s a charm.. wait, what?

Hello Darers,
fifth time here, but this time i wanted to try something new so i am going to take part in the jam with @WaveringRadiant instead of the usual solitary compo. Although given the fact that both our Mondays will not be free, we’re self-imposing compo rules (only exception, being 2).
We’re gonna stream the entire thing on http://www.twitch.tv/akaSkyWolf and we hope it will be fun.

Keep jamming,
SkyWolf

My 2nd Ludum Dare: The Revenganning

Last time, me and the team failed to meet our lofty goal.
Our confidence and dreams shattered like a cheap childs toy.
Through months of training and practice; enough to make a montage of 1980’s PG-13 action movie proportions, I’m willing to put it on the line again!
I will spend the better part of my weekend (probably lazily) creating my game!
And this time, its personal.

Thats right! I’m gonna make a game by my lonesome!
I won’t drag my friends down with my wild ideas and lofty ambition.

To help achieve my nigh-unstoppable goal, I will be utilizing my favorite tools!

Game engine: Construct 2!
Art stuff: Autodesk Sketch Book Pro, MSPaint, Adobe Create Suite
Noises: 2-turn-tables-and-a-microphone (seriously, i don’t know; i’ll figure it out as i go)

So yeah, that’s about it…

Have fun everyone!

Desk is setup ready for Ludum Dare

2014-08-22 07.49.49

Well my house is packed up and I have my laptop, fridge and couch I can sleep on ready to go for LD30.

Entry!

So, this is technically the second Ludum Dare I’ve attempted, but the first where I’ll actually submit something at the end (hopefully). I’m entering the Compo and working together with a friend, and we may or may not be using a pre-coded library, available here: https://github.com/pi399/cobalt. I’ll be coding in Lua, using LÖVE!

Good luck to all!

There’s a first time for everything, so they say…

Been designing for about a year or 2, but this is my very first LD. So I’m really looking forward to a challenge. Be sure to follow my progress over on my Twitter page.

Tools being used :

Engine :    Unity v4.1

Language :    UnityScript (Javascript)

IDE :    Monodevelop

Art :   Paint.net + Gimp 2.0

Timekeeping/Organisation :   Trello (https://trello.com/)

Music and Sound :  Audacity + Some random Synth plugins.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi! I’m fresh meat and i’m delicious!

Bringing a new challanger, me, to the Ludum Dare 30, might have not been in the last 29 ,but heck, why not now!
I will be livestreaming  the entire time at twitch.tv/mindrage

The tools i will be using is:

  • Itellij IDEA Studio 13.1
  • Java
  • LWJGL
  • Powerpoint for explaination during stream (Feel free to join in, chat is keeping me up!)

Who am I?

Wow, that question sends you into deep thoughts, doesnt it? Who am i? What do i do? What in the world is this shit im talking about?
Well to keep it short, I’m a 21 year old (or.. young) gamer/programmer with alot of ideas and loves to focus on content. I love to share my work and thoughts.

I wont really do anything until the competition starts, meanwhile, look at this picture of a baby owl wearing a hat:

So..

See you at twitch.tv/mindrage! Dont forget to follow if you want to get notification when it starts!
