Ready Set – Ludum!

First time to Ludum, looking forward to it!

  • Unity
  • Whatever graphics software I can manage to work (paint!)
  • Reaper
  • Guitar
  • Microphone

We’re in!

Hello again!

We’re three friends from Bremerhaven, Germany and we’re joining the jam this weekend.

We will be using Java with Slick2d, a lot of Club Mate and hopefully some fast food to make a game.

Good luck and lots of fun to everybody else!

#LD31 Announce and Thoughts

So I guess I’m going for another Ludum Dare! Last time I made a small Twine game in the little time I had that weekend between shifts. This time, I’m going to be off all weekend!

Over the past couple weeks, I’ve been working on my CodeAcademy tutorials without active awareness that there was a Ludum Dare coming. I actually finished the intro JavaScript course, now I’m just running through the project at the end. I might make my game in that? It’s an environment I’m surprisingly comfortable in for right now and it’s something that’ll run in the browser and be playable everywhere? I dunno.

I’m gonna play around with JavaScript during my break at work today and see if I can’t figure out how to potentially make um… interactive games? with it. My goal last time was to prove that I could make a finished, playable game with an ending in 2 days. This time, my goal is to make a “generic” but functional arcadey title with a score, graphics, a defined win/lose state. I want to prove to myself that I can do that thing if I so choose to, and hopefully it’ll go well for me.

In addition to JavaScript, I’m actively exploring the depth of resources available to us during #LD31. In particular, I’m very interested about CraftStudio, and plan to play around in it a bit today since we have it available for free use. I wanted to start learning Lua anyway, and it looks remarkably similar to Python, which is something I’m actively learning already. I’ll make another post about my decision and what I aim to do with my given platform or language.

I look forward to seeing what everyone has going. I’m sure this’ll be just as fun as last time! I’ll be livetweeting my efforts on Twitter in addition to posting here.

I’m in.

Just thought I’d pop in and say hello & notify that I will be entering into the compo.  This is my first game jam, though I have been a game developer for quite some time (coder, not graphics) so I am really looking forward to seeing how this goes (depending on the theme that is chosen.)  I am not using any previously built engine for the competition as I will be coding my engine as soon as the compo is underway.  The tools that I will be using are as follows:

Unity 3D (2D)

Graphics Gale

BFXR

Adobe Photoshop

Audacity

Good luck to all, and happy gaming.

My first Ludum Dare

This will be my first Ludum Dare. I have some experience programming games, but never anything complete, and never in such a limited time.

The tools I will be using are :

Programming:   Lua  with  the LOVE api

Graphics:  Paint, Inkscape, Gimp, Blender

Sound: Sfxr, FruityLoops (for music), Audacity

Good luck all!

I’m in, too

First time Ludum Darer. (Darist?) Not sure what to expect exactly but no matter what, expecting fun. Probably will be using Unity though I’ve been toying with the thought of giving Monkey-X or Loom a try just for a change.

I’m in!

This will be my first LD and I hope I will create something playable in time.

Tools:

Joining the fray

Hey Guys, I’m in! This is going to be the first Ludum Dare I properly take part in (I’ve made games on the theme before, but never posted them)

Tools I’m going to be using will include:

Unity3D with C#

Photoshop for 2D sprites and maybe GraphicsGale if I feel up to it

Bfxr and the Autotracker script for the music and sound effects (as it is my weakest area!)

And of course, copious amounts of junk food and probably alcohol as well (drunk games design is the best games design!)

I will also be streaming over http://www.twitch.tv/nairu99, so if you’re Ludum Dareing too or just want to see someone try and make some games

(can’t promise they’ll be good!) then come on over and join me.

Looking forward to seeing you all~

Nairu

Hey There! (Second LD, First Ever Post!)

So a few people have asked if I’m participating again this time, and to those people I say… Yes! (Though I don’t think I’ll finish, because I’m actually away almost all weekend). I’m expecting to reach Sunday evening and decide to enter the Jam instead. Probably a good idea..!

Going to be using Java, and take this as an opportunity to take a good long look at the new LWJGL 3… Something I’ve been putting off.

The tools I’ll be using for development are pretty standard:

Eclipse Luna

Java 8

LWJGL 3

and for assets:

Adobe Photoshop CS6

Ableton Live 9 Suite

3DS Max (If I happen to have drunk enough to consider a 3D game plausible!)

Good luck everyone!

Unreal code error

hi guys, anyone else having problems with the unreal 90 days free trial? I get this “Result: Unable to assign code”

Yeah, I’m having the same problem, logged in to Unreal, then here pressed the Get Code button and got the “Result: Unable to assign code” message

Im in

This will be my second Ludum Dare I compete in. Here’s hoping it’s a good theme.

I plan to use:

Engine: Unity3d

Language: c#

3d modeling (if need be): Blender

Texturing: Photoshop

Ludum Dare 31, I hope

Oh ! A new edition of Ludum Dare start this night (yeah, it will be the night in France…)…

I don’t know if I will be able to participate but I’ll try. In any case, I wishes to everyone to have a good Ludum Dare and good end of year celebrations !

Have a nice day.

Yup, 2 hours or something to go, and I’m fairly intoxicated. Boss asked if I really had to leave the bar (: Good to have support at work, not so good to have to deal with “how do I fit my personal stuff into my personal time” (:

I’m in!

It looks like I’ll have some time this weekend, at least on Saturday and part of Sunday. So I’m going to try to get something finished (and if I run out of time, I might enter the JAM).

I’m planning to use Haxe / openfl (with my own base code) or perhaps Unity, depending on the theme. For graphics I’ll probably use Tile Studio and / or Inkscape.

YOUPI, I’m in!

For once, I’m gonna ditch Flash and try something new: JAVASCRIPT. Yah, it’s not that different. Well it is for me, cause I’ve been so used to Flash. I did work on JavaScript games in the past but it’s been a very long time.

So the tool I’ll be using:

  • Brackets as text editor
  • Flash CC only as an art tool (I’m not making a Flash game this time!)
  • Garage band, cfxr
  • And this new weird tool I just created yesterday called YOUPI.

So wait, what’s with YOUPI? So here’s the story. I got bored yesterday, so I decided to produce some tool that would be useful for Ludum Dare. So I made this thing called YOUPI, which is essentially YouTube looper, or you can call it an “animated GIF with sound” creator. It’s also open source. I thought maybe I could use it to add cut scenes or looping background in a game.

The result… is really stupid… so delightfully stupid… that I felt compelled to share it. So far, I’m not sure if it’s actually useful for anything, but it’s kinda fun to use. Perhaps if you make a time-lapse video and want to share a part of it, you can use the tool and you won’t have to generate a gif. Or perhaps you want to loop some music in a javascript game. Rather than program it, you just put YOUPI somewhere on the page and you get the image as a bonus… Geez really? What is this tool useful for?

Anyway, I thought I’d use the LD31 keynote to show what you can do with YOUPI:

Waiting for the theme (’cause it can’t be a snowman, can it?)

I didn’t bother sharing this with my previous post; what I will be using.

Languages: php, javascript (jquery)

I’ll be using notepad to put it all together

Gimp for  graphics

audacity, an ancient BOSS drum machine and my guitar for the soundtrack

a lot of mountain dew,  beef jerky, ramen noodles, and frozen pizzas for nutrition ( and maybe a couple middle of the night visits to Whataburger).

And really, I don’t want it to be the snowman.

Another “Firsty”, give me liquids!

I will be doing my first Ludum Dare this time. As many of you might know, you always want to participate, but family, work and other life-stuff always is a lot of pressure to simply ignore for one weekend.

This weekend, I will try to ignore it as much as I can and develop. I can’t wait to finally start a new project from scratch and make something that will be finished in two days. I had a lot of stuff that was long-term work in the last months.

It is very important to forget anything serious from time to time and let your creativity flow!!

I will use the tools I am comfortable with:

  • Unity + VS2013
  • PyxelEdit and Paint.net
  • SFXR

See you on the other side!

☃ (had to)

I’m in

  • Language: Java (JSFML lib)
  • IDE: NetBeans
  • Text editor: nano, gedit
  • Graphics: Aseprite
  • Sound effects: sfxr, Fake Music Generator

Ludum Dare 31 I am in, First Ludum Dare

My 16 year old daughter and I plan to create a game together. What tool we use will probably be based on the theme. Robert del Naja and Andrew Melchior thanks for the assets, they are great and I plan to use one of the music assets in our game.

Quick question, I do not see the opt-out checkboxes, and it seems submitting the game is just a post from what I read in the FAQ. Is there something I am missing? Good luck everyone!

Submission happens through the submission form, which becomes active after the compo starts.

I’m in!

I’m in, again. Last time as part of a two man team, this time alone. Again in JavaScript. We tried to create a little engine with the game, and that’s what i’ll be using this time, and hope to improve it a little bit. It’s basically a little framework that sets up a canvas and provides some simple methods for drawing, playing sounds and very simple collision detection. I think the rules state, that i have to share own engines upfront, so here it is. (Download) The most fun part was to learn a bit more about JavaScript, aside from DOM manipulation and form checking and fancy interfaces, that’s why i don’t want to use a ready-made engine, although some of them seem very nice.
