Life update

Since last jame my live has undergone some changes. I am a Web developer this days. But I didn't quit my passion for games. I believe that its a chance to expand my knowledge of the dev field and get more things done

Something to consider: z/x regional keyboard buttons layer problem

Something i see very often. Im not sure if lot of creators are aware of it, but some keyboard regional layouts have z and y switched. And its really pain to play with its layout (as you can imagine, in that case its not z/x but y/x). Somebody can say: hey, but it should not be problem for you to change keyboard region... i say: yes you can, but its quite annoying. There are plenty nice keys which are next to each other (space/alt, shift/ctrl). I made this post to inform creators, maybe someone will read it and will think about it when creating game. Thank you for reading it :) Have fun with LD

New game is coming

Here is a concept of our environment made by our designers. The game consists of blocking as many citizens as possible to increase his score. Unfortunately some citizens are dissident and will not stop, they will benefit from the chaos that the police will make to passConceptGame.jpg

That's How Game Jam Go.

Been working on a game idea now for about two hours and we have come up with one, which actually took us a lot less time than our previous game. Here is how our design board is looking now:

image0.jpg

Decided to go for a more unique idea of a game, not just your average plat-former, or fighting game - More of a puzzle game with an unique twist.

Will update when there is some game-play, until then, happy game-jamming.

Let's get started!

We are having a hard time thinking about all the different mechanics our game will have, but we do have our cutes slime to play with!

Just woke up !

After finding some ideas, I went straight to bed ! Today, I'll dig one of those idea ; a serious game about ecology. Hope it will work !

Look at those sad faces :(

Yes, this is the peak of my artistic skills.

It's gonna be some kind of reverse tower defense (I think, haha)

Introducing Cutting Corners!

We're just finished the main character and decided the overall feel of the game. We're so excited for everyone's feedback! Best of luck to you all!

Our Cuddly AI Cows

ezgif.com-video-to-gif.gif Our first attempt for fighting AI cows. Fighting animations and effects will follow.

Fighting Against the Blank

I can't believe it's been 4 Ludum Dares since the last time :open_mouth:

Anyway, this theme has me thinking on many many many ways a game can be made with sacrifices as part of its core... I've thought about making a Lemmings-like game where sacrificing units is necessary to open the path to the end... I've thought about a visual novel with an emphasis on resource management and deciding who gets to live through the end... I've thought about a game in which food and fuel are the same resource and rationing the resource pool is necessary in order to both escape and survive.

And, in the end, I'm going for a tower defense where resources are farmed not from killing enemies, but from literally farming towers. Which is great, because in general farming/planting mechanics do attract me in a game.

Well, time to fire the L脰VE development environment and get this game going!

Oh look i've my base mechanics

Maybe not the most perfect way to get it, but i know how it works and how to maintain / debug it.

Still i got my base mechanics and happy with itScreenshot_2.jpg

To jam or not to Jam.

Okay. I really want to compete in this jam. I absolutely love the idea I came up with for the theme. I know how I want to build it. I know what I can do instead to reasonably get a game done. HOWEVER. I thought jam was next week. This is literally my busiest weekend all month. I've already been up for almost 36 hours. So I'll post my idea and hopefully, maybe I can get through my other work and take a shot at doing the compo Starting like Saturday at 9.

So. Idea. Sat here for several moments trying to come up with a name. I settled on One Must Die. The idea was that the game was going to be an epic fantasy adventure. You would start out a young hero with this elder mentor. You've known him your whole life and he has slowly been preparing you for your destiny to save the world. The time has come and you set out to right some evil, slay some beast.

SPOILERS FOR PLOT TWIST GAME AHEAD

You spend the first part of the game traveling, dealing with small monsters. Your mentor has the role of healer. Eventually you get to some artifact you need to complete your quest. You kill a boss and think this is it. I've won the thing. Victory. Except it won't activate. You ask your mentor and he informs you, it needs a sacrifice. And he does it so you can claim the orb. As he dies he sends you towards the second.

You end up in the minotaurs maze. I had this idea for a crazy chase sequence where your run through corridors and it smashes through the walls to get you. Eventually end up in a large room where you fight him. You beat him and the cut scene continues the fight. You drop some mento from your mentor.pun The minotaur recognizes it and stops.

He apologizes. Shares some stories. Takes you to the center where second artifact is stored. On way he acts as supermuscle killing stuff for you. Center is guarded by some hulking death trap. He holds it open so you can clear out some mooks and open the door. Cutscene you realize the door is too small for minotaur. He was cursed to never leave the maze, never see the prize. He kicks you through the door as he looses his grip on the machine and he dies for you.

You take the device/artifact thing. The maze collapses dumping you in the ocean. You end up on the ocean floor and can breathe thanks to the thing you collected. Magic. yeah. This is where idea gets a little fuzzy. Great sea serpent is going to be third mentor. She dies for you. Then fourth I don't know what.

Eventually you get to the end of your quest. You have the four things you need to defeat evil. You walk into sacred temple. You place you world saving things in their place, turn to find the world ending monster, and nothing. You walk around for a moment and the spirits of your 4 mentors show up. One must die. Not any of them. You. you are the world ending evil. Or at least you will be. You have to die to save the world. All their sacrifices were so you could make yours. And they couldn't tell you or you wouldn't go through with it.

Eventually I want there to be achoice. Do you follow through. or forge your own path. I'd want two different boss fights here depending on the option you chose.

....

Yeah. that's a little much for the jam. Thats a whole lot of nope for the compo. That's a whole lot of nope for me solo normally. So, at the very least I got my concept somewhat on paper and maybe I can do a little work on it. Thanks for the idea!
