LD 39 July 28–31, 2017

Game length suggestion

I see a lot of games for LD that are way to long. With so many games to go through and rate unless your game is really really good most people arn't going to stick around for 30 minutes. I'd say a good length is around 5 minutes. That way most people will be able to get though it without it taking too much time. Even if you want to make it longer and have enough time to make it so that in the first 5 minutes people will understand your game enough to rate it fairly. It's kind of annoying when you have to play for 10 minutes to even get full use of the games main mechanic. I hope this is helpful because I feel like it would be good for both making and rating games.

Entry statement

I'm in!

This is my first game jam so don't expect me to blow your minds, but I'm excited for the chance to create something and become involved in such a neat community. Planning on using Godot, Aseprite, SFXR.

I'm in guys

I am going to enter. Fact.

I'm In!

Trying some new tools this time! GameMaker for game making, Ableton for musique. Sticking to old tools for the rest: Aseprite for graphics, BFXR for sound effects.

Good luck jammers!

Yeah yeah the usual

I'm in! But with a twist, this time with a team!

@Moski will be handling the virtual pencils, @jmm will be jmming some grooves, and I'll be the code monkey.

As for the tools, Unity, VS and UniRx are confirmed, the rest will depend on the game!

I'm in!!

With a team and a new goal!

Regards!

Back for a second round of Ludum Dare, armed with Paint.NET, Sibelius, poor time-management skills, and a mediocre understanding of Python.

Goals for this Ludum Dare: - Make a more complex game (perhaps not mechanically, but more varied would be nice) - Do more sprite work and more than one animation - Go ham on music, and have some sound effects - Break top 100 in two or more categories

Time to get no sleep and spend 48 hours ironing out bugs!

Prep...

Prep work progress going well.

1) gitlab.com repository created

2) new Unity project created

3) added 'must have' Asset Store packages:

  • Post Processing stack
  • Cinemachine
  • Procore bundle
  • Google2U
  • Rewired

4) added my shared library (service manager, UI system, etc)

5) all of the above pushed up to Git, LFS configured for common file types

6) Unity Cloud Build configured & ran successful test build

All ready!

My Most Important Tool

If I learned one thing from LD38, my first game jam ever, it's that I should rapidly prototype and test that my game is actually, you know, fun. If I learned two things, the other is that I do best when I eat well. But I also don't want to spend a bunch of time cooking. Enter the crock pot.

crockpot.jpg

Good, easy, and cheap food that I can have ready when I need it. That's why it's my early vote for my most important tool. That or Unity.

Best of luck to all the participants!

Color Palette for Games.

\o/ Sup, "Jammers", while waiting for the ludum dare 39 to start, I made a Beautiful & Colorful Color Palette for my game, but since I'm feeling nice today I decided to share it with you..

Hope you guys like it! :fingerscrossed: eagerfox/emcolorpalet_ludumdare.png

I looked for my most used color for my games and here is what I came up with.

And before you ask, no, this is not a copy of softmilk32, I used the design of softmilk but not the colors themselves.

Give it a heart if you found it useful, plz...

*Also, if you use this for your Game, PLZ, give credit to me, EagerFox, https://ldjam.com/users/eager-fox/ *

Hot off the Game Maker's Toolkit Jam I'm throwing my hat into my first Ludum Dare! I will be using Construct 2.

Locked and Loaded

LD # 3 for me! Super pumped up! been practicing coding and UI dev to get ready, gonna probably take it ez this jam after not producing quality games like I'm normally used to I'm going to revert to 2D in Unity and plan on using GIMP. I haven't made up my mind on sound use yet. I'm going to head to bed and sleep in late tomorrow so I will be well rested. If you are going to have a Discord Channel pls tag one on here I'd like to join one! Good Luck, and Have Fun!

I'm in?

Well I guess I am in too. Will definitely go for Corona!

I'm In!

Well, this will be my fifth consecutive LD and the second time I'll be working with a team! Going to be working with the same couple folks I worked with last summer, though hopefully things will be a bit smoother since we aren't learning Unity on the fly this time (though we'll be using JME instead this time).

Meanwhile...

I made a game for the MiniLD74, it was my first multiplayer game, currently it is for linux and android. I do not know what's going on here with the web version, I'm trying to fix it.

Throwing my hat into the ring

It's been a little while since my last game jam, so I'm really excited about joining LD39!

I'll be using Unity as my engine, save having to try and package html5 games for multiple platforms/worry about browsers/ worry about frame-rates, haha

I'll be streaming everything as I go: https://twitch.tv/gakkleinc

Can't wait to see the theme, see everyone at the starters line!

Neil Creates: Recreating Assets, Gameplay Mechanics, etc.

Hi there,

Now that LudumDare 39 is just around the corner, I would like to share a new series that I’m currently working on.

It’s a series where I try to recreate some assets, art style, gameplay mechanics, and other components and/or elements that make up other games. I also share some techniques and best practices that I learned so far while recreating previous works of art. Enjoy!

Play. Learn. Create.

I'm in!

This will be my first go at a Ludum Dare. I've heard a lot of cool and exciting things about this event, so I'm super excited to try my hand in it. I hope to have fun, and (dare I say) finish a game! I plan to use libGDX and a small custom-made engine, and have a blast with a few friends of mine! Best of luck to all!

I'm in! Solo (Compo)

I'm in!!!! And I'm pretty excited!!! I feel like I've needed to avenge myself from my last entry... I'm still not sure if I"ll be streaming, or just constantly posting. This will be fun! (^.^)/

Dev Tools: - Unity 5.6.2 or UE4 4.16.2 (Depending on my game idea) - Maya - Photoshop - Substance Painter - Zbrush - Garageband
