Anathema Mines: Now In Beta!

Hey … my October Challenge game is making real progress!

Here’s the deal: I’m using Steam to distribute the beta, so you need a Steam key. I only have a limited number of those, so first come first serve. Get a beta key here. They only work for Windows right now, so if you’re a mac guy like me .. well, you’ll have to wait (or run it under VMWare or something. It works fine that way as well.)

I’m totally looking for any and all feedback you can provide, the game even includes a chat-window that probably won’t be in the final game but is in the beta so that you can chat with me / other players / or just complain about bugs / give suggestions. All the chat is logged so I can review it later :)

Thanks a ton! This October Challenge has been great (even if it’s lagging into December now ..) TBH I think this game will be done in maybe 2-3 months. But it’s been fun!

-Phil

P.S. If anyone knows a musician who can do good “sneaking around in caves” type music, I’d love to hear about it. Post a link in the comments to their portfolio.

(I’ve already got an artist lined up to help me with adding a bit of sparkle to the logo / icons / menus / etc.)

this looks cool

I’m in! LD #22

I’m all set for entry into Ludum Dare #22.

This time around I’m planning on using base code, which should hopefully remove some of the more wasteful time spent coding up not-really-game-related stuff. I’ll be using FlashPunk as a starting point. Nothing fancy, but good time saving code nonetheless. I’m also switching my IDE from Flash CS4 to FlashDevelop. This should also net me some more time, as I get to spend less time struggling with a poor IDE. I’ll also be attempting a timelapse this go around. I’m already excited to see how it will turn out.

I should note that this is all pending a new job I may or may not have in a few days. I’m not sure if I’ll have the time off to be able to do Ludum Dare. We shall see!

  • Language: Flash/Actionscript
  • Existing Code: FlashPunk
  • Sound: musagi, inudge, bfxr, sfxr
  • Graphics: Paint.NET, Adobe Flash CS4

Will add various links to additional stuff (source code etc).

Looking forward to it.

Bound to be an off the wall number again!

:-) <3 to all Ludumites!

Entry Complete and Uploading.

Entry is now here.

LD48 #22 – Are game creators like GameSalad allowed?

Wanting to talk some non-programmer friends into signing on for next weekend but want to make sure it’s a valid submission or if they would need to enter in the 72hr Jam instead b/c of source code. I’m hoping having them just submit the actual project file in place of source code would work as long as the creator they are using is free. Please to someone help.

Also, I’m in for LD #22 – Javascript or Python, probably decide after theme is decided.

I don’t see why not, it’s pretty much the same thing as using UDK, Unity or a well rounded Framework.

I’m In ;-D

Hello everyone, as usual I’ll be doing a web based game, but this time, instead of Flash I’ll make a HTML5 game.

I’ll be testing a proprietary framework, so I’m going to be doing the Jam instead of the main compo.

>>Language: Javascript
>>Libraries: Impact, soundmanager2
>>IDE: Open for suggestions.
>>Gfx: Photoshop, Web Camera, Pen & Paper.
>>Snd: Audacity, SFXR, Aria Maestosa, GXSCC

Warmup, you say?

I’m up for a warmup jam. Count me in!

I’ll make some kind of dirt-simple game, probably using Processing so that I can get familiar with it.

Expect something along the lines of “go get the item” or “avoid the thing” rather than an epic thing.

Peace, love, and minimalism,

– Henry

Pumped for my first LD!

Planning to use Unity3d, Photoshop, sfxr, another tool i cant remember the name of……. and maybe 3dsmax too

Warm up

I’m very glad to see there is an official warm up :-D! This looks like great fun. As it happens, I have already written a clone of the classic game Repton 3 as my warm up. I am currently polishing off the details of the game (GUI, neatening source code etc). Once all that is done, I shall post it to the warm ups page. If you haven’t played Repton before you simply must give it a go! The game is older than me (it is 26 years old, I am 22), and is still by far better than the vast majority of games on the market today.

My dad meticulously documented all of the maps from all Repton 3 games when he played the original game so that he may remake the game later. Since then he has remade the game twice (as various technologies have died. Specifically the BBC micro and DOS). Hence I shall post all of the map files along with the game. I won’t have the original artwork, though. I should be able to use the music from Repton 3. I ultimately aim for something as close to the original as I can get.

Taking part in both LD22, and the warmup!

Toolchain : FlashDevelop, FlashPunk, Photoshop, Renoise, BFXR, and winLAME.

Let’s hope I finish this time around. 😛

Joining The Ludum Dare!

Tools: Paint.NET, Mixcraft, Gamemaker 8

Looking Forward to My First Jam!

I’m pumped about entering the Jam this month!

Not sure what software I’ll be using yet. Depends on the theme!

I’m in!

This is my first Ludum Dare and I’ll be using GameMaker Lite and Paint.NET.  I haven’t coded professionally for a while so I’m looking forward to creating something simple but polished

Warmup tyme!

Alright, so while I don’t really have time for it this weekend, I am going to make a little, just to do a warmup game.

The concept so far:  You are an evil spam message, and you must make your way towards the unsuspecting user.

My theme was generated by The Official Sos Theme Generator, of course.

Lol! Great idea!

It look so good and funny!

Can’t wait to try it!

Jamming for the first time!

Going to be jamming for the first time over a weekend where I’m busy all Saturday. So my plan of action is as follows:

– Learn the Theme
– Plan and design Friday night
– Skip Saturday – maybe a little plan development in my head
– Code Sunday Evening
– Code Monday
– Race to finish

I will probably use Java over C++ as its just easier to handle in a shorter time frame and will definitely try and record some of the progress. Updates will be on:

@Viscis and twitch and Shockware

Good luck everyone entering the compo!

My first time as well! Good luck!

Hello All!

This will be my first Ludum Dare. I have heard about it before, but things have always come up. This time, I’m able to participate. I will be using GameMaker 8 Pro, GIMP, and Audacity in this competition.

Warma mackor

I got “Cloak and dagger” as my warm up theme. Cool theme, i  like it.

I’ll post some screens as i go.

Engage!

Warmup … tempting

O Ludum Dare, how dare you?

Initially I wanted to make some progress on my TIGSource compo game for December. But this warmup seems like a great idea as I have some swarm-algorithm code ready for some weeks now I wanted to put in a game. And guess what the generator for theme picked for me:

Kittens!

So I’ll try to make a game with a kitten swarm for warmup this weekend.

Genius use of kittens. Just be sure to avoid the dwarven amount of kitties. 😉

Warm up Weekend

Well this is my first LD, so I intended to do a prep weekend. I’ve never tried to code a game before (from start to finish). Though I program every day at work, it is mostly data analysis and portal websites. What I didn’t know was that LD warm up is something of a tradition and a damn good idea. It even comes replete with a random theme assigner.

So, I got Narration.
Game Ideas

Employing KISS principles, I think that I’ll do a simple puzzle game based off a the idea of enacting a story.

  • Player is a ball which can push other objects round a maze
  • There are various coloured exits to a level
  • When the level starts the ‘Narrator’ will say something like “Then our hero pushed the red block through the blue exit’
  • Level is complete when the red block goes out the blue exit

That should cause me to use the basic tools and skills I’ll need for next week end.

Warmup Game and LD – A Change of Tools

ARGH. I’m starting to really… dislike… Processing. I really am.

So back to JavaScript and HTML5!

I’m glad I sorted this before LD proper.

I’ll make a thing…

Peace, love, and web scripting,

– Henry

What problems do you have with Processing? I don’t use it .. just curious.

Warm Up!

So i’m also doing the warm up!

My friend gave me the theme: “dimension”

This is my game idea:

There are two players playing the same level but in other dimensions, one blue and one red.

You control them both, if you press the left key the both move to the left and the and if the right key they both move to the right and so on.

There are places where only the red player can pass and places where only the blue player can pass.

There are places where only the red player will die and places where only the blue player will die.

Their goal is to get to the end of the level without getting dead.

Also i’m checking my livestream at justin.tv.

ToDo:

  • Finish the programming
  • Doing graphics
  • Adding levels
  • Doing homeworks

Good Luck Everyone!
