Ludum Dare 55 April 13–16, 2024

Introducing ourselves (trying to not be blacklisted)

Hey, we are West East Studio and it is our first time taking part in Ludum Dare. We are currently making a small Point-n-Click adventure Antioma and wanted to take a few days off from the development to jam. We are real humans who have just registered in the jam, not bots :)

The best one yet

So many possibilities!!

Spring(ing) into action - or probably not

It looks like I most likely won't be able to participate due to other commitments this time.

Other reason being that I still haven't gotten around upgrading/organizing my development-setup which is currently in shambles. Getting stuff in order is long overdue!

Been indulging in outdoor activities and photography a lot lately.

Thought I'd at least share these low-res shots I took yesterday for your delight (or terror - depending on your stance towards wild critters).

Spring is full on it's way in this hemisphere, so gotta enjoy it I guess!

I wish y'all a perfectly jammy Jam-time!

Gonna be trying some of your games later too.

Why use a framework instead of an engine?

For those who are using a framework, I'm curious to hear your reasoning why choose it over an engine.

To me it seems like a lot of unnecessary work reinventing the wheel. Coding stuff that comes packaged in game engines, such as level editor, etc.

I wanna hear your thoughts.

I’m in

Been a couple of years and rusty as ever. I’ve switched to Godot and only made Tetris so far. This will be 48 hours to see what I can make with that experience.

Nervous, but excited!

Never done this before and I do have a few small obligations this weekend, so I'm not expecting too much, but I'm excited to give this a shot! I've been dabbling with Godot, Aseprite, and FL Studio for a while now and I am hoping to use this to force to me focus on a small scale project and get it "done".

Wish me luck!

I'm back!

Hello again! "legendary" astronaut fella here and I'm happy to announce that after dealing with some projects within my own "company" and the general burnout of having to code everything myself I'm partaking in this LD having done some social events to recharge and all that, idk if I'm going solo or me and the team wants to all partake together but likely solo since I only learned LD is this weekend today! Crazy huh? I really should pay more attention to my events instead of playing tetris...

I'm in on for the Playdate

Haven't participated for a while in the LD Jam, but this time I want to create a game in Lua or C

Will be creating a game for Playdate, but only in simulator as delivery to Europe is delayed :(

1st LD

...and gamejam in general

I will be using:

AGS

AI-generated graphics. //i (or one of my team mates) will be using regular image generation for characters, backgrounds, action-icons

The game won't use most of AGS capabilities. Most of the logic will be done using UI elements. It's going to be turn-based or real-time depending on the LD theme

Collaboration

Hey, try to keep it short. I'm not quite sure if I got enough time to create my own game, also since my mates gonna skip this round and I'm terrible and uncreative when it comes to graphics. I haven't fully decided yet, but maybe someone is interested in collaborating on a game where I (in the worst case) only can offer 2x6-8h of programming. The main engine I use is Godot with GDScript, but I also have been working a little with GameMaker and Unreal. As I needed to "create a game" to post here, I'm not quite sure if I could join your team officially, but since it's more about the experience for me I'm happy to be a silent co-worker as long as this doesn't interfere with some rules here. So if you're interested or got some more questions feel free to contact me/write a comment. I'm a german developer, but to some degree fine in the spoken and written english. I could definitely support at 13.-14. 6pm-1am cest and 14.-15. 6pm-1am cest, and maybe (but not guaranteed) some additional hours at daytime.

I'm in for the weekend, and my 16th entry!

I'm going to try for a compo submission again, as the last couple of times I always missed the deadline. The usual tools: * LWJGL / GLFW * Aesprite * LMMS

Let's go

Here we go again!

I am in, and I will continue my Twine-streak and make a little text-based game. I hope to focus more on narrative this time around, and less on coding mechanical stuff that a non-programmer like me struggles with. I'll combine this with some HTML/CSS and a lil' graphic or two to dress things up with, as well as some music to set the vibe.

The tools I expect to use:

  • :notepad_spiral: Twine
  • :paintbrush: Photoshop CS6
  • :musical_note: FL Studio 20

Wallpaper

The tradition persists and a wallpaper emerges.

Presenting a Zip file that contains HD and 4K versions

It's a celebration!

This will be my 20th consecutive Ludum Dare, having started back with LD36 in 2016. Time does fly when you're having fun! Let's try and make it a good one.

See you on the battlefield!

How to generate an invite code for friends ?

I often recommend LD to my friends, but I just learned that you now need an invite to join. It says "check social media or ask a friend". Well, does anyone know how to generate this invite code ?

Also, imo even if I'm blind or can't read, it's way too confusing. It should be super obvious to everyone, otherwise the event will slowly die just because new people give up joining. I know I would have assumed the event was dead if I wasn't in already...

I am in :)

Hi everyone! Just saying: I'm in :-)

Favorite tools:

  • Notepad++
  • Paint.net
  • Filezilla
  • Physical Calculator
  • Some poor-old random notepads I have laying around
  • One of those fun 4-color pens  :pen_ballpoint:

New Sign

I just signed up for LD, and am looking forward to the weekend and checking out the games people make too

First game jam ever

Hi everybody :) I've never participated in a game jam before, and I'm honestly not quite sure what I'm going to do yet. I think I'll use GB Studio as I'm a big fan of the GameBoy platform, and I think the limitations it presents could be a good source of inspiration whilst keeping me within certain imposed boundaries. I'm quite anxious, so wish me luck.
