LD35 April 15–18, 2016

1 Hour to go.

Someone told me this chaos starts in an hour. I’ve never done one of these, Ann Frank-ly I have no idea how to participate, submit things, or use this website in general. Good luck everyone and may the games be forever in your favor.

Participation is easy, you just create a game while following the very few rules their are (see compo vs jam rules). Submission is also extremely easy, they’ll put a giant button called “Submit Entry” or something at the top of the website after 48 hours, and you are allowed to submit your entry for an hour or two after that button shows up in case you run into problems with submitting/uploading or something. OH! And there is one extremely important rule that you absolutely should not break: make sure have fun! :)

I’m in! Probably

I should have some time this weekend, and I’m excited! If nothing goes terribly wrong, of course…

What tools or libraries would I use? I’m thinking I could do a story-oriented thing with Twine or Choice of Games. Reading the rules carefully, that should be allowed; certainly I’ve seen Twine games in LD, but have there ever been any Choice of Games LD entries? Anyway, if not that, I could do Javascript/HTML/CSS, or possibly Flash, maybe even with a PHP backend and a SQL database to add some persistent or multiplayer functionality…depends what ideas I have!

See you on IRC!

OKAY FINE I’LL DO THIS

I’ve always wanted to do Ludum Dare, but I always find out about it too late. Then, I saw Lindsey post about this edition on Twitter, and I tried to not do it, but she convinced me.

So let’s do this.

I’ve got like, less than an hour to think about how I want to do this. All I know is, I’m gonna do it in Rust. Other than that? Who knows. But it’s gonna be fun!

Should Be In

Looking at probably a late start but I plan on entering regardless. :)

Second ever Panda3D game to grace Ludum Dare

I recently broke up with Unity3D for…many reasons.

I also recently hooked up with this hidden gem of an engine, Panda3D. Fully foss, C++ under the hood, Python API.

Going to be using that this time around, and coding on Linux Mint.

Also switching from Photoshop to Gimp; no clue what I’m going to do with music since Reason doesn’t have a Linux port. Might have to jump back to Windows for an hour or two to build my soundtrack.
