LD35 April 15–18, 2016

I’m In!

Hello everyone!

I’m in for LD35. My plan is a top-down RPG style game where the player unintentionally shapeshifts to reach other areas of the world. Right now, the goal of the game is to map out the world for your town.

I plan on using Scratch for the programming and most of the art, Audacity for the audio, and Piskel for some other art.

Good luck and have fun everyone!

Kitsune Spirit PhaseShift

So I’ve got my idea for my LD game. It might be one other people are doing. Hope not. I’m using the theme “Shapeshift” by having it so that the character can shift the world around them to parallel universes to get through each level. Levels will be puzzle based and short and every few levels there will be a small chat sequence to continue and break up the story. I think I’m aiming to do 9 levels with 1 starting story bit and then another story bit every 3 levels. (again these are just character art with text displaying). I know there are games like this already where you change the world around the player, but something about this idea has stuck out to me, and I’m thinking I will be having a good jam this time. We’ll see. Head in the game!

Day 1

I usually take the first day to just plan out the weekend and ideas and such, so I feel I got a pretty good game-plan. Going to do a platformer with a single input and with forced forward movement, with the level shapeshifting you into other characters that have different input results (for example, one character’s input might make him jump whereas another’s might make him flip axis or invert himself)

program?

I’m In!

Here’s my tools this time around:

  • Language: Haxe
  • Engine: HaxeFlixel
  • Text Editor: Atom
  • Tilemaps: Tiled
  • Art: Piskel*
  • Music: Bosca Ceoil*
  • Sound Effects: ChipTone*

Tools marked with a * are completely new to me. On a whim (and after seeing what some people on the IRC were using), I decided to replace a bunch of my tools just a few hours before the compo started. It’s a recipe for disaster, I know, but I familiarized myself with each of them briefly, and not only are they pretty easy to use, I think they’re far more appropriate for the job of creating a HaxeFlixel game than what I was previously using.

I’ve got an idea, but like usual, I don’t know it it’ll be any good until I prototype it. Here’s hoping it works! For those of you still without an idea, I leave you with some inspiration:

stage 1 – Setup about to be done for now

Stage 1 – Design of the idea.

Got pretty much the idea on the paper, basic flow charts being already created and planning on the next move, need to recheck what I have and see any tweaks before i move into Unity, being thinking, should i setup this on github? what do you others think of?

Oh? I just keep everything in my noggin, 72 hours isn’t that long to hold a simple idea.

I’m in!

I am in this year!

Here is a game logo that I made:

(I know that it’s really basic, but I don’t care, it’s good enough.)

Bullet Heaven

BULLETS.

[CLICK TO VIEW ANIMATION, animation takes a second to kick in] This is a work in progress. The final game will contain more bullets.

So little time, so much to do…

I came up with a concept fairly quickly (at least, quickly for me), so I wasn’t certain if it would really flesh out that well. So far, it looks like it might work, so now I have to try and pull it off. Here it goes!

First step, make a list of all the things I’m going to need…

ARGH!!! So much to do!

Sigh.

Well, it’s worth a try. I’m going to get some sleep to prepare for some full-on modelling, animation, and programming tomorrow. See you later!

I made my icon better!

Update III: Progress is slow. Still Pushing

Progress is a little slow. I have a lot of cards, more textures, and finished my walk cycle. Now I have to make more units, going for an RTS game. Heres some cards (You can flip and move them!)

UpdateIII

Endless Runner

For the past 3 hours, I’ve been doing the typical endless runner where you have to shapeshift to avoid different obstacles.

Right now all I have is a cheetah (without an animation .-.) and some basic running.

Music doubt

Someone know a tool like a virtual keyboard to compose and record the music?
Thanks

I always use beepbox.co – it isn’t really a virtual keyboard, but it is a chiptune music creation program.

Check out the tools link below the timers on this page, there’s a few music creation programs listed :)

Unsure whether my game fits the theme

I’m making a story-ish game, and the main character is the shapeshifter, but he doesn’t really SHAPEshift, he just changes color, I could easily change the sprites I have right now, making him actually change his shape, but I kinda like the feel it has right now.

Does this fit the theme, or should I have different shapes for the forms too?

Just do your thing, the point of the theme is to get people to actually think of something, which isn’t your issue.

If you care about your scoring, I’d say make the character change shapes as well. After all, the theme is SHAPE-shifting… If you’re just doing this for fun, there isn’t a reason not to stick to your original plan.

Finally getting started

In the first hour of the compo, I finalized most of the stuff in my awful awful “game library,” called Alfredo. Now that that’s over, I’ve finally started working on a game.

As always, it features my almost good enough bitmap art.

I’m hoping it doesn’t go the way of my entry for the 33rd Ludum Dare, which is eerily similar:

  • Both were inspired by just a random flash of inspiration
  • Both are related to technologyish stuff
  • Both have a modular main character

Here is a screenshot of my trudging progress:

Sell Your Games

Hey everybody!

This Ludum Dare is coming up super quick and it is going to be a good one I can feel it! Everybody who participates is a champion and deserves recognition for creating such wonderful things for people to use! The rest of the world have a hard time realizing the amount of effort, work and creativity put into every game made ever,ESPECIALLY indie games. I am an indie developer myself and I love creating software for people to use for little to no charge, its just the sheer pride i take in my creations and being able to help people.

I have created an online indie game marketplace where you indie developers can go and sell your games FOR FREE!(no hosting or submission fees) I had launched the website back in January and from then had nothing but a positive experience. I do not charge the developers on my website, I encourage as many games as possible to be posted, I deal with getting the users to buy and play the games.

To Mioti Games

A user of my website, Blockout22, and I have been in the works of creating a launcher for my website, and it is currently in heavy development, but works! It is made in java and will be free forever!

If you would like to be a tester for us, Download the Launcher Here

Happy developing everybody, I can’t wait to play your games!
