Okay whew…got the concept, all zones modeled, scribbled up some textures and a sprite, got one-sixth the zones textured, some basic movement scripts working and one untested script titled CoyoteEyes…

Morning everyone (We are in)

Hi fellow LD’ers!

We are in, and we just woke up. Thank the Jam’s long 72 hours for letting us stick to our sleeping habits on day one. Not much sleep left for us during the next ~60 hours, I am afraid…

We are in, and we voted against Shapeshift, and those of you who voted for it, I want to tell you it’s all your fault! Guess we’ll score low on theme this time, but we’ll try.

We are in and… Tools, have to tell about tools. Well, our own Symphony Engine will do, as id did since 2009 (it was April, I suppose, we may dedicate our game to it).

Also, PS/Pickle/Sketch/Sublime/Audition/xCode/VisualStudio

And we’ll eat and drink too, a luxury for every LD’er that we can afford to afford or something.

Welcome to the game dev project Currently streaming with 2 Modellers/Artists and 2 scripters.

Late, but still in!

Sooo… I’ll be using:

Evernote – Brainstorming

Unity – Game Engine. I’ll be using C# and visual studio

Pyxel Edit – Art (yes, it is worth it)

Bosca Ceoil – Music

BFXR – Sound effects

Neon Jumper (Working Title)

Unfortunately, this month I don’t have that much time in my hands, by I’ll try my best with the Compo. Here is the simple idea I had:

 

  • Kinda like The Impossible Game (http://impossiblegame.org/the-impossible-game/) mixed with Ikaruga (http://store.steampowered.com/app/253750/) .
  • Different types of platforms in neonpunk fashion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/233270/)
  • Endless runner
  • Some hurt you, others don’t
  • To change which hurt you, need to shapeshift to a different colour
  • There are 3 different colours, and you change between them with 1/2/3 or q/w/e or z/x/c. Space jumps
  • Platforms can be on the same X axis as you are, or higher, or lower
  • Touch once the wrong one, you die. One HP, one life
  • One point for each change of platform
  • Techno music in the background

I’m in

Just woke up, saw the theme: mildly disappointed because it’s exactly the one I didn’t want, but hey-ho, it could be a challenge.

I haven’t done anything gamedev related since the last time I submitted here, so this should be fun. Wish me luck.

Rough Going So Far

Just about ready to call it a night… I’m nowhere near where I wanted to be, though I did manage to get one of the riskiest parts (for me) done – capturing animated 2D sprite renderings of the main character(s). It is a technique that I haven’t used before, so it involved a bit of trial and error.  With this done, I am much more certain that I can handle the rest of the artwork on the project.

One of the biggest issues I ran across was with trying to find a model format that MakeHuman, Blender, and Unity could all agree on.  No matter what I did, the resulting model wound up munged in some way and unusable.  I lost nearly 2 hours there.  I wound up having to cut Blender out of the picture and make my desired modifications to the model a different way.

So, yes, it is quite concerning that I don’t have any sort of gameplay yet except on paper. I do think I have a solid idea, though, so hopefully I can hit a home run tomorrow with it, because tonight was kind of a 1-2-3 inning.

Progress!

Progress! But it’s been slow going! I might have taken a couple of hours to fix a pretty simple bug …

What started out as a play on the word “Shapeshift” is quickly turning into a psychedelic-horror rhythm platformer?

A three person team, we’re using Clickteam Fusion 2.5 for the programming, Bosca Ceoil for music, Autodesk Sketchbook for art (no screenshots yet…), notepad for the script, and Trello for project management!

Plagiarism in the ludum dare

We all know that just taking a video game song off of youtube of the x86 files is clearly against the rules, but is a remix? is taking the midi sheet, changing the instruments or the pitch against the rules? Is taking a idea, or a phrase, or some concept, and putting it into your game against the rules? is taking art heavily based on another character or concept against the rules? I mean, if you made it from scratch, it flies, right?

After at least 4h of brainstorming and countless more or less silly ideas we finally made it to the point where we have something that could be called an idea. We’ll be taking our own spin on a classic, but with a little shapeshifting to it, hopefully making for an interesting enough gameplay to be worth the effort. A little sleep deprived, we are currently fighting with Unity physics casting to get our cute heroes to interact with the world as intended. Szasz is hard at work with the graphical design and I think at this point it’ll be safe to assume it will be a strong point of the game.

First 2 Hours of Progress

Well, Allergies are taking me down hard, but at least have something on the screen after a two hour stream:

I’ll be back with vengeance tomorrow night, hopefully better rested and with passion now that I have a ‘rendering engine’ partially working…

Looks like I’m in!

I wasn’t sure if I’ll be able to participate or not until the last moment. Turns out, I’m it.

For this LD, I want to implement an idea I have had for a long time: a game in multiple genres at once. Specifically, a game in which you can switch between them. More detail coming as I brainstorm them.

LD35 Progress Update 0

Woke up this morning to see that the theme is indeed ‘Shapeshift’ as expected :3

More unexpected is the sudden shower of snow outside, truly British weather is a silly thing!

I got straight onto creating a new project folder and uploading it to Github. Took the time to sketch out the form of a particle system which results in this nice screensaver:

(although it’s a lot nicer in motion :P)

So whats next, character creation, gameplay planning, a concrete idea? Nah I’m gonna make a sound system! 😀
