LD30 August 22–25, 2014

Well, I didn’t get anything done the last three times.

So why the Hell would I get anything done the fourth time?

I don’t know, but I may as well keep trying.

I keep going overly-fancy on features and don’t concentrate on the core game.  The first LD I took part in, I just threw things together as fast as I could and got a lot further than my later attempts.  Going with SDL last time really helped me just focus on the game, but I hadn’t used SDL in years, let alone SDL 2.  I’m going to spend some time later tonight getting used to it and make a framework for tomorrow to build off of.  Of course, I’ll provide the code and license it under the GPL as I always do so as not to violate the rules and I’ll make another post tomorrow before the competition if I think it’s anything that may be more useful than just for me.  The repository will be on GitHub here.

Oh, and; I’m in.

Since this is the 8’th time – I’ll win for sure!

almageddon!Alma is turning three this fall an I’m participating in my 8’th ludum dare. Sometimes we’ll play super mario on the wii but most of her gaming time is spent feeding various animals on the iPad. Since we’re expecting another kid this fall I’m not that optimistic that I’ll be able to participate in the next jam but hosting a real world gathering here in Stockholm will probably create enough good memories to get me through the winter. =)

So, the plan this time is to use trello and try to keep things as simple as possible.

Language: Haxe
IDE
: Flashdevelop
Libraries: A not so pretty entity framework I rewrote this week.
Graphics: Fireworks!
Sound: as3sfxr and sunvox

And here’s the link to the gathering in Stockholm, we still have a few spots left! =)

We’re in!

We’re in for the jam. First time :)

Language: Java

Framework: Slick2d

Sound: sfxr, audacity and lots of musical instruments and objects that can generate sound (and a mic to record it ofc.)

Graphics: GIMP 2, Paint, Paint.NET and maybe Inkscape. (And a tablet for drawing awesomeness)

Hardware: A keyboard with an o key that gets stuck all the time and types a million o’s when you intend to type one…

Good luck everybody! Enjoy ld30 as much as we do! 😛

In it to probably not win it!

Think a dose of enforced game design / making discipline will do my head good at the moment, which is in a literal spin unable to do anything as it keeps changing its mind. LudumDare 30 should provide enough panic to get it into order due to pure panic!

Its possible I might not use it but this is my C++ engine and codebase so if I do, I’m not breaking da rules cos its already open sourced and ready to go

I’m usually really bad at Ludum Dare, too slow and spend too long on things but this time I will succeed!!!

Maybe something with the kiddos this year…

My wife will be out of town this weekend and I’ve got three kids, 8 and under, so I won’t be able sequester myself for 48 hours of bleary-eyed programming. Instead, I thought maybe I’d try getting the kids in on the action! My plan is to do some preliminary planning and setup once the theme is announced (after the kids go to bed Friday night). Then during the day Saturday, the kids and I will work on the “creative” aspects of the game: art, levels, sounds, music. Finally, once they’re back in bed at the end of the day, I’ll spend Saturday night assembling all of their contributions into the final game.

I pulled off a similar plan last year for the Fantastic Arcade Game Jam, and the result was a delightful iPad game that my kids really enjoy playing. It’s like an interactive drawing of theirs. Hoping I can achieve the same against this year.

So, yeah, consider this my “I’m in” statement!

  • Planning on using the Phaser library.
  • No server-side component, so the published game will just be deployed as a static site, on S3 probably.
  • Will be using Sublime Text for all my text editing needs.
  • Will probably end up using Photoshop, but would like to push myself to use Acorn or Pixelmator or Sketch, even though I’ll be clumsier in those (not knowing keyboard shortcuts, etc.).
  • Will certainly use Audacity for minor audio editing, and if we get around to music, probably Garageband.
  • The kids still do best drawing on paper, so I’ll use my trusty scanner to capture everything, or maybe even my iPhone camera, depending on how fast and loose we are with the artwork.
  • I don’t have a real microphone, so any audio will be recorded with my laptop’s mic or my phone’s.

And I guess if I do a game with the kids that puts us in the Jam category (because we’re a team!). And gives me an extra 24 hours to hammer out any technical issues, or get additional art from the kiddos.

I’ll be honest: if the theme for the compo is tempting enough, I may just decide to do the compo and put the kiddos in front of the TV Saturday while I work on my own project! ;-)

I am in!

Wheee! Finally I’m home when a Ludum Dare is taking place and I’m really looking forward to it!

First LD ever, and I think 30 is a good, nice number for starting.

Here’s my loadout:

Code: Gamemaker Studio

Art: Graphics Gale, paint.net and maaaybe Photoshop

Sounds: SFXR and Audacity

Musichttp://www.abundant-music.com/

Looking forward to playing everyone’s games!

I’ll be participating.

Well, this would be my second LudumDare, so I’ll be sure to participate!

I’ll be using FlashDevelop, and probably GarageBand for the music. Maybe Graphics Gale for the graphics, but I’m not sure yet…

Good luck everyone!

I’m in

First time for Ludum dare.

Code: either JS & browser, Lua & Love2d, or unity.

Change of plans

Seeing as my mom’s birthday is coming up this weekend and also that I might be moving around the end of this week or beginning of the next, I’m going to switch to Flash once again. SO scratch my previous “I’m in” post because here’s the deal:

Flash Develop
Paint.NET
Flixel
Bfxr

As for the music I’d love for once to make my own soundscape with Audacity, but that will only be possible if the theme lets me do something moody and atmospheric. I just can’t compose proper music.
I’d also love to do something like a 2 bit palette from the game Pioneers. But I don’t know if I have the skills. We’ll see.

We’re in!

This is our first ever Ludum Dare, and my first time with this specific game engine.  But I’ve messed around with it, and doesn’t seem too bad to use…

Game Engine: libGDX (Java)

Art/graphics: GIMP and a tile map editor

Sounds: MilkyTracker and FL Studio

Hardware: Intel i5 Computer with a lot of hard disk space… :)
Ducky Zero Keyboard (MX Brown superiority!) and some awful Dell mouse while my RAT gets fixed

Looking forward to playing everyone’s games!

The bed is too close. I’d be tempted to take a nap instead of coding! 😀

Own Java Framework *_*

Hey all,
Wrote in the last 2 month a Java-Framweork called HoodJE, i’ll work for the next 24 on it to make everything work and then i will write my final post :)For everybody who is interrested, here the Github project:> GitHub Repositorie

Here is the plan:  – Stand up at 6am (German time)  – See the Theme  – Go into my village to by some energie drinks *~*  – Come back and freakin program the sh*t out of my life 😀 I will use:  – Java with my Framework witch is based on pure Java

– Gimp or Photoshop – Windows 8 PC

And I’ll stream! -> Twitch.tv/xShootCraftx – so follow me to dont miss it 😉

( I will take some guys to Skype with me while programm and Stream o_O )

Hope I will have fun, hope u will have some too and the best would be if we would have some together on the Stream 😀

Alone in the Dark

What i can do without external resources????

Let’s try….

Oh my…

I’m In

Seems more or less mandatory to post an “I’m in”!

This is my first LD – I will be working on a tight schedule since I have figured out I will only have a total of about 18 hours available over the weekend.

Haven’t decided on frameworks yet… Either MonoGame with Coco-Sharp for C# development or Phaser for JavaScript development.

For extra inspiration around the theme I will be using Game Idea Generator: http://orteil.dashnet.org/gamegen

I’m All In!

Yeah! Finally got the chance to join my first LD. Really unfortunate for the first day to fall on a school day… here’s my plan (UTC+08:00):

– wake up at 6:15AM

– go to school at 6:35AM

– reach school at 7:30AM

– check theme when teacher’s not noticing at 9:01AM

– Code until a prototype is playable

– make it more awesome

– upload it

– play and vote other games

– make my game even more awesome

Oh wait. It’s on Saturday, not on Friday school day. Hmm…..

Can’t wait!

I’ve been looking forward to this for months. I’ll either use Unity or Stencyl (which I’ve recently taken a liking to for quick prototyping) depending on the theme. This will be my 4th (I think?) LD I’ve participated in.

We’re doing it! Rarrrr!

The Indie Squish Minecraft community is entering ye olde Jam again, doing the asset creation the same as we did the last two times – by building voxel stuff in Minecraft. :)

This was the first one we did:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaHRC7z5rD4

Likely will be a Unity3D game, music done in heck-knows-what.

We are in

We are back for our third time and are looking forward to putting what we learnt from the first two into practice.

Tools

GameMaker Studio

Pickle

Audacity

jfxr

Good luck everyone!

Maybe I’ll join…?

Alright, this would be the second LD for me, and I have a little problem before joining: I currently have no PC.

Tomorrow I’ll buy one, and I am not even sure about that. I’ll try my best with GameMaker: Studio and FamiTracker, and bFXr, but knowing gamemaker, the game should be limited to Windows 8 and 64bits.

That’s because I’ve read somewhere that if you compileon win8, the game won’t be compatible backwards.

But don’t worry, I can still compile with my old PC, but that’ll be compiled and published, but unfortunately, it may be too late :c

However, good luck everybody!

-GV

I can confirm that GM:S games exported from Win8 PCs will indeed run on older versions of windows.

I’m in

Hello I’m Simon and you can count me in to Ludum Dare #30. I will use

  • IDE: IntelliJ Idea
  • Library: LibGDX
  • Graphics: Inkscape and Spriter
  • Music: Don’t know yet
  • Other: Tiled, TexturePacker, git(hub)

I wish everyone lots of fun, a good time and I hope we can improve our skills again.

Random Room Generation in Game Maker Studio

Depending on how things turn out with the theme, I made this random room generator to prepare myself. It works 99% of the time (only sometimes do the rooms not connect perfectly) and it creates a 2D array that can be manipulated afterwards. It is provided as-is, although I may help you if you need it.

You can view the code here: https://gist.github.com/TomboFry/e27724f587fe36d2ad75

Below are some examples of the script in action (if I draw each element of the array to the screen):

Generating 15 rooms with widths/heights between 3 and 4:
roomgen-15-3-4-3-4

Generating 3 rooms with widths/heights between 5 and 12:
roomgen-3-5-12-5-12
