LD 43 November 30–December 3, 2018

We're in!

This will be my third LD ever and my first time doing it in a team. It's my friend's first time!

I'll be using:

  • JavaScript
  • Phaser
  • Bfxr (for sound fx if we have time)
  • Pyxel Edit

I'm in

Language: Java/JavaFX, Art: Pyxel Edit, Audio: FLStudio

My Theme Suggestions

My first time of Theme Suggestions... Somehow I always missed it.

And this is like my 6th LD or something...

So here they are:

:bulb: Lootbox Gambling

:bulb: December

:bulb: Something Old, Something New

Some Themes that didn't made it to my suggestions:

:x: You are not the December

:x: One December, Two Colours, Three Rules, Four Keys, Five Seconds

:x: Inconvenient Decembers

:x: December is Coming, December is Useful, December is Spreading

I'm In!

This will be my first ever Ludum Dare so I'm curious to how it goes!

My theme suggestions are:

  • You Are The Enemy
  • No Killing Allowed
  • Light It Up

Wish me luck!

Here are my theme suggestions for this season!

themes.png

I did a quick brainstorming and ended up with a huge number of theme ideas, choosing the 3 best ones was really difficult but here's my selection! These are the ones I found the most interesting to design a game around while being vague enough to allow for truly anything to come out of them.

It will be my second compo so far, can't wait to see which themes will come out on top in a week! I'll be using either Unity or Godot, depending on the theme (if it is more interesting I shall focus on making a good game and sticking to what I'm used to which is Unity, otherwise I will use this opportunity to try out new stuff, that would be Godot + Blender).

I'm in!!!

Cant wait until LD! It is my first time but I hope I still do well!

My theme suggestions are:

All places lead to where you were

Make more than is needed

The inside of nothing

I'm in!

I got some school exams, but hopefully I get time to jam all weekend. This will be my 7th in a row so gotta keep that streak going :)

Obligatory "I'm in" post

I'm in for my second Ludum Dare.

In the previous jam I entered with Pyramidion (see post-mortem).

I'm going to be using Unity again for this jam, and for asset creation I'll use Procreate on iPad, Gimp and Aseprite. I'll probably opt-out of audio for this jam as well (I have no idea how to create music and I didn't learn anything about that since my last jam).

Good luck everyone :)

Looking for Teammates

I need one designer and one artist. Using Unity3D. https://crowdforge.io/jams/ludumdare/teams/2621

I'm in too!

This is my first Ludum Dare I've participated in (I went along with LD 42 though), and my third game jam. I use GMS2 for everything except music, which I use online sequencer to do. I hope this theme fits my development style and I hope to play all of your games come December too!

Replying to this thread...

Some days ago I made this post: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/$121761/what-is-the-point-of-this-rule

But most of the answers where talking about 3rd party assets.

But the point is: I personally create my own asset library (created, modelled, rigged, textured by ME) during the last few years. So can I use them if I want and still apply for graphics?

I don't think that it's fair to ban this.

Someone told this in the comments (and I agree): "Also, if you used pre-made assets and created some graphics for the LD specifically, I’d say: don’t opt out of the category, but make it very clear in your description text what you did for LD and what you re-used from earlier."

Can I do this?

My Theme Suggestions (and how I decided on them)

My suggestions are: - A Follower - Weapons are Resources - Bigger may not be Better

The way I chose mine was by trying to be as vague as possible. That sounds weird, I know, but being vague lets people interpret what the theme is. For example, my theme A Follower could be interpreted as: - A friend who follows you - An enemy or obstacle that chases you - A group of cultists or otherwise who follow your decisions - etc.

Basically, vague = open for interpretation, which is good, because it leads to much more diverse game genres and ideas, rather than "oh the theme is December let's make a game about Santa and snow"

I'm in... TWICE!

So, I'm going in again. Probably to fail, again. But that's good. I learned a lot of things. Mostly time management and some shortcuts I could take.

For this Ludum Dare, seeing that it's the last December-dare, I want to do somethings special!

I'm joining with 2 Teams!!

Team A: Just me! Will be using: Java, Gimp. Might use library or template. Will announce it if I do, as per the rules, free and open for everyone to use.

Team B: Me, ... and my 2 daughters!! We will be using Scratch & Gimp Since the last few months my daughters (9 & 7) are going to our local chapter of CoderDojo and they like Scratch very much. So much so, that they want to make a game, like their dad does (when he finds the time these days). So I have challenged them to join me in a team and make a game for this LudumDare-43!!

We will focus on movement and a goal for the playable character. We won't do too fancy things, but I'll teach them how the logic for a game works and the win/lose conditions.

I'll work on my entry when they're shopping with their mom, at horse riding lessons, sleeping

Wish me luck, this might be the most challenging LD I've done so far!!

I'm In Again

Hopefully, I'll publish something playable this time for the Jam!

After quick, but careful thinking earlier today, here are the themes I've picked out:

  • Potion
  • Lights in the Dark
  • No Violence

I want to avoid using themes based off of settings this time, and focus more on abstract ideas instead to bring in more creativity.

As for the game, I might use Love2D, since I want to practice and experiment more with programming in Lua (and hopefully, the experience will help me with my current gaming project). Another alternative would be to use full-on Javascript, and HTML5 and make another web game.

For graphics, Aseprite will do.

For audio (if I ever get to it), I'll have to search for audio software.

Wish me luck, and good luck to everyone in the jam or compo!

Im in?

LD43 will be my first game jam. Looking forward to completely failing to finish in time but should have fun regardless.

I'm in for the 4th time !

Here we go again, if nothing goes wrong i'm in for this one. It will be my 4th participation, and now more than ever I want to experiment new things for my games.

If you're curious you can check my previous games here, as well as some other games I made this year : http://touloutoumou.com/games/

And also here : https://toulou.itch.io/

Yeah, guess I'm in

I have never participated in a game jam before so my time management will be horrible and I'll probably not submit on time but hey, at least I'll have some fun and learn new things.

Also, I believe the easiest thing for me will be what others struggle the most with, the music. I am mainly a musician. That just makes the rest harder.

I´m in

This is gonna be my first game jam. Wish me luck.

My suggestions:

-Just one box of goods

-Not what it seems to be

-Food fight

Message from my past myself

Hi guys, I'm in again and I just red the message from my past myself.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/dodge-and-pray/dear-manimal-when-you-will-be-doing-ludum-dare-next-time-you-should

So, this LD I will be more crazy about the game, maybe I will aim mainly for HUMOR ranking. I have already bought a Lego for I hope faster game design things.

Here are my suggestions.

Nobody is able to tell you what should be your goal in LD game jam. Do what you want, and have Fun.

Enjoy the LD 43!!!

Premade assest? Incorrect rules? Problem?

TL;DR:

Some people are taking this even way too seriously. LD has always been about the experience, not the score in the end. Don't dig too deep, or else everyone's fun will be ruined.
