Trying to Name The Game (PS. I'm In)

Person Running From Nuclear Reactor

My ideas list so far: - Power Run - Bionic Legs - Leg Day - Nuclear Feet - Neutron Escape

or I guess it all else fails I could just name it on the nose...
Escape The Exploding Nuclear Power Plant With Augmented Legs!

Solar shield!

Really need some defense? Synthesize some power! SolarShield.gif

Oh noes, single digit on hours left

Seriously though, I'm almost done. Gonna do some finishing touches and tweaks with the few remaining hours before I call it a day... voodoo-lockdown-cover.gif

Ready to finish this!

I'm up, had a great sleep for almost 7 hours (I think), and I'm ready to finish all of the scenes! (hopefully)

Let's just hope it doesn't take too long. (I say that when I'm creating a scene that will continue in three paths...)

Gotta go fast

Before and After

before.PNG after.PNG

I love before and after captures. It's a good showcase of how something is built; in small steps. An artist starts with a sketch. A musician starts with just a few notes. A game developer starts with primitives and stupid little smiley cicles.

People are often put off making things because they can't make the perfect thing straight away. Everything needs to be done in small steps. There is nothing wrong with that.

Times Up!

Im out of time due to work but i got it done! woo!!!

check the game here Screenshot (260).png warlock6.gif warlock8.gif please consider buying on itchio if you like it :D

2nd Ludum Dare!

I've gotten a suprising amount of work done on the first day! I don't really know what to add next though...

Here are some screenshots C: Screenshot 2017-07-30 20.07.32.png

I added nighttime too, just to make it a bit harder. Screenshot 2017-07-30 20.07.10.png

I'm done (in every possible way)

Yeah, I will end it here. Several things did not go as intended. I finished... something and I'm happy that I did, but I'm not happy with how it all went down and honestly: I don't feel like working on it any more for now.

I will wrap this up tomorrow, because I still think I learned a lot this time and I will try to improve while waiting for the next Ludum Dare. I will be back. :sunglasses:

Sounds like progress to me.

Hey, I'm starting to create the art for my entry. It's not much, but if you remember yesterday, it was a simple cube! Technically, the game is finished, everything works well, I just want to keep the last day to polish it all (yep, I go for Jam and not Compo... again XD)

Release4.gif

Enervatus is finished!

Enervatus2.gif

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/enervatus

It is getting there...

Our logic is mostly finished, but we haven't done a lot for graphics or leveldesign yet (as you can see...).

You are a developer who has to fix bugs (resembled by puzzles) in his nightmares. His power goes down as his level of fatigue rises. He can regenerate power by drinking coffee.

ingame.gif

puzzle.gif (For some reason the recording makes the cursor look offset...)

There's almost a full work day remaining!

However, that doesn't help when "oh god this is my weekend why am I fatigued" kicks in.

Keep going, finish line in sight :)

Maga.png

Here's a little more programmer art to keep you motivated.

Entering hyperdrive!!!

yeah3!.gif Finally got a higher framerate for the gif. This game is starting to get really messy, I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it in time for polishing it up and such. Hopefully everyone will understand how to play! Good luck to everyone who's still going! Looks like I'll be up till 2am again (the deadline)...

Finally Finished

RunningOutOFPower3.gif

After hours of work and copious amounts of caffeine,I have finished my first game jam ever! It was a fun experience with many head pounding moments :) but alas, perseverance prevails! I kept it simple and did a twist on infinite runners. Check out my submission if you're bored https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/running-power

Almost done

Most of the story is done, only the last part is left to do. Then testing, and then a few illustrations if I have the time.

I was planning to do a jam at first, because I wanted to use some music (and can't make my own), but since music doesn't work like I expected it to do in Twine, and that I am ahead of my schedule, I may submit this as a compo instead.

Back to work, fast :D

Knocking out some niceties this morning. Improved the HUD feedback by a mile. Just got finished adding a starting gun wait for the players.

Next is the power balancing mechanic. After that maybe a HUD notice of your rank after the race is over. Then will look into AI or level tweaks.

You just woke up in the middle of nowhere. The darkness is crawling up on you and the only protection you have is your powered warehouse and your lovely weapons. Try to stay alive while banishing the unwelcomed forsaken and powering your generators.

Uploading game soon, it will be my first fully functional "Game" and my first entry in LD. (it is mediocre, plz don't hate just rate )

Visual Scripting

I'm trying to finish this open source visual scripting plugin for Unity while at the same time trying to create a game wasn't a good idea. I'll probably have to punt to the Jam to get anything done. :(

I have a good game concept and a lot of personal source code. So there is a chance I can code for one day and have something decent by tomorrows dead line. I'll have my 13-year-old help which honestly will actually probably slow me down.

Well it's something, but it's also not finished

I encounterd a lot of bumps on my way to make a real time strategy game in Pico-8. Now there is not much time left, so i can't implement a base building mechanic. And i really hope that i can still make something that is game-ish.

PICO-8_4.gif

I Just Checked...

I just checked and apparently my game would've worked for 7 out of the 16 final themes. xD

So far, so basically done...

Well, main gameplay loop is there, graphical prettying up has started; still a few things left to do:

1) Animations for the remaining powerplants

2) Music - it needs audio, badly

3) More event cards; I want at least 60-something, and I'm currently on 36

4) Adjust starting cash, and add in code to make power requirements fluctuate per turn - this needs doing for the game to be "complete" for the end of the jam, but shouldn't take more than 20 min or so (hence the post title)

I'm running with "Out of Power" as the title for the game at the moment.

Note the new background instead of the plain blue, and the adjusted manual power plant icon replacing the old stickfigure. test.gif

7 Hours left! Test build.

Hey everyone. With only 7 hours left I imagine most of us are scrambling. So why not a quick distraction? I just put an updated build of my game on my website here. http://www.shorremccolman.com/deliverydrain

WASD to control the car. W to park your car at a pickup or dropoff location. Note that you cant actually win yet, the deliveries will not register on the bottom. LD396.PNG

So this is very late but...

I posted on my twitter that I probably won't do Ludum Dare this time because of how exhausted I was from work. But it looks like I've changed my mind somehow.

LD39-00001.gif

Progress on Sunday

Well, I have something!

I decided to make a tower defense game! I'm not sure why, I don't have a huge interest in the genre, but I came up with something that worked for the prompt and seemed doable, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The prompt tie-in is that you start out with more than enough power to run your defense towers, and you get progressively less every round, while the enemy line up stays the same. So the first couple of rounds let you plan where you can cut back when you have less resources.

So far, I've got some little enemies moving around a path, and towers that shoot them. I guess all this might not have been a super challenging task, but I was surprised by few major roadblocks I ran into. I guess I'm more comfortable with Unity than I thought! I was particularly proud of being able to create a good targeting system for the towers. It took a bit to come up with the proper data structure, but once I got it down it worked shockingly well and I haven't see any wonky behavior yet!

SundayMorning.PNG

Obviously I need to work on the models and textures, but it works! My next step is being able to arbitrarily place towers, which I think will be a pretty meaty task, but once I get it, the rest of the basic game structure should be done! I have high hopes for having a decent something done on Monday!

Jam Day 2

Happy to not be in the compo...

In our second day we've our plattformer engine working pretty good with some of the core mechanics:

  • Losing energy every second.
  • Charging energy on the charger zones.
  • Getting some energy from gems.
  • Level manager. ...

We want to force the player to stop on the charger zones, take a breath, and decide his next steps.

Lost In Spb

I don't know what happens in the end. Two long days the puzzle is not folded. And only when all the dialogues surly Russian from St. Petersburg was added to the game. I was finally able to enjoy the fun text adventure in the dark city on the Neva river. PS They are not gloomy, just serious. =)pimgpshemfullsize/emdistr.png

The Last Battery

As my first Ludum Dare submission ever, I made a goofy game only with HTML and CSS (no JavaScript).

RulesQuest: a game with 5 characters who must adapt to different rules each game

So this is Rulesquest, i've been working on it since yesterday. The game is a very simple RPG farming simulator. You are the white king. There are 4 other kings you must defeat to win. Each has their own tactics that you must discover while you play.spr_header.png

The gameplay itself is just moving with arrow keys or WASD, and picking up items with space bar. Quite simple.

Here's how far I've come so far:

coffee-game-2.jpg

I have a working system of winning/losing the game and am currently trying to balance everything (earning money, drinking coffee, brewing coffee, pouring coffee into the cup, ... You get the idea).

My goal is to get upgrades working in the next few hours, but we'll see. Anyways, I am already pleased with having a playable game right now.

We got a main character

Content is coming along nicely, we finally have a picture of our main character: Princess Sophia. PrinzessinSmall.png

I finished my little game. It's the first time I participate and I'm very happy with the result. I think it could have been a bit complexer but I think I archieved a nice game.

I love my concept, but I think I went a little too ham on the details, and now i'm pressed for time. It's hard to see myself finishing by the deadline, but I'll keep crunching, maybe I can pull this off.

A dark time

And.... submit! I am very happy how it turned out the game, as I said it is not amazing but it is my first jam so happy to have finished "something". There is a lot of room to improve, graphics and animations for example.

I hope some of you enjoy it... If you are going to try it, play it in full-screen (1920x1080) and headphones on! I tried hard to at least give some sort of a spooky ambience!

The joys of statistical anomalies

My games has power ups and their spawning is controlled by a random number generator (one separate one for each power up).

First time I run to ensure the newest power up I added worked properly, two power ups spawned the exact frame. Naturally I assumed it was a bug causing the two RNG's to create the same number.

I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out what was causing it.

Turns out it was just a statistical anomaly where both RNG's happened to generate the exact same number.

Spooked me for a bit.

Another Productive Day!! Close to finish

Awesome day of more work on the gameplay side of things and trying to balance the best way possible now. I am happy considering the amount of work achieved over the weekend. Need more work on the UI side and models could use some textures but I am not sure if I can work tomorrow as well.

sceenshot2.png

All the best to everyone!! Waiting to play the awesome games everyone is making here.

You are a small battery running around looking for juice and hopefully surviving. WASD to move, arrow keys to shoot a bolt which freezes obstacles but at the expense of some of your health. It's not very long, but it WAS made in 42 hours so cut it some slack...

Time is of the essence

It's incredible what you can do when you throw artists to the screen with complete disregard for their well-being

WIP

This time I've tried to keep things simplier (mechanically speaking), so the base game is pretty much up and running, it just needs the proper game manager (win/lose conditions, menu...) and the "puzzles" themselves.

Since this is a game of patterns, I expect the coding of that last bit to be somewhat easy and not very time-consuming; hope I'm not wrong :P

Anyway, here's a little WIP of how the game looks right now (I simply put the link because I am unable by any means to either upload it or get it to directly open on-view):

https://i.gyazo.com/d9e20752071a3a1c5b0cd5a3d96d31f2.mp4

(The game features some Public Domain images, a Lens Flare and a Milky Way asset packages).

So close...

Need to finish more sections! This will leave you scratching your head when you're trying to escape before the Station's power level reaches 0.

Build Your Own Robot (Accidentally Break Stuff)

We're going for a physics-based game this time. The idea is you have to build energy efficient robots, and prove their efficiency by navigating various test courses with a limited power supply. So far it's going pretty well, you can add rockets, boosters and magnets. It's also possible to navigate through the level, although generally what happens is you leave a trail of destruction. Trying to decide whether to reward players for breaking stuff, or not breaking stuff... hmm

First Time and Finished! YAY!

This was my first LD. It was pretty stressful. At first it was going pretty smooth. But after that just pure stress. Nothing worked, I had so much to do, not much time.

But in the end I finished!

Bribe or Die

In Bribe or Die you’re a corrupted leader who is slowly losing power over time. To regain your power you need to make yourself great again. To do that you need to bribe creatures. But be aware. Some creatures only want your money and won’t bring you any power and will even drain it more. So be careful and bribe the right guys!

Jam-in

I'm late to the party but I'll be doing the jam - that's still 1 day and 5 hours to go. Wish me luck :D

Unfortunate with IntelliJ IDEA EAP build

I have moved to the EAP build of IDEA in the middle of my project, and that seems to have messed my project structure. The resources directory is indeed marked as resources label from the gradle, and now it fails to load the resources. Spent 4 hours just to find out that it was the issue of IDEA and not mine.

I verified it again this time by using Gradle from command line, and everything worked perfectly.

Now I had to change my IDE to Eclipse (which doesn't support Android target) and get myself familiar with the new workspace, but with some issues it is now working. Mainly, I had a tough time as I'm habituated to the IDEA's shortcuts for a long time of more than 4 years.

Anyways, I think I cannot compete for the compo, and tomorrow I have college. So I'm moving this to JAM instead.

ingame_dev1.png

There you see the game running finally. There is still a lot to work on, and I have to compose the music. There are a lot more entities that are going to be in the game too, followed by a tutorial. Postponing this hence.

End of the 2nd day report ==>

Hey!

Couldn't work as much as I wanted to, but this is slowly getting together: +Sound-fx done +Player and astroids models done +all gameplay is done

LD38GIFem2/emLOW.gif (HQ gif HERE ==> http://i.imgur.com/2FN1CAQ.gifv )

Now I have to work on the UI, tweak some numbers, and build a small intro to set up the story. Hopefully, tomorow this will be finished!

(Still, I have no music, and that's a great occasion to start learning how to make some crappy tunes ^ ^. Even so, if someone feel inspired and want to make a simple piece of music for this game, that would be highly appreciated!)

Good luck to all the jammers for the final hours!

Whew, I'm spent. Also my compo entry!

Wow, what a Ludum Dare!

I think this is my seventh time or so, second time with Haxe Flixel (which I'm loving more and more after each time). Pixaki on the iPad is also incredible, and I've been able to fit it into my way of working beautifully. Still doesn't make me draw any better, but at least it's fun to use :D

So, here's what I came up with!

Build some structures!

Will puppies drown? [Game completed!]

We made Puppies in Sea Trouble in less than 2 days. This is the first game me and my lovely fiancée have worked together on.

Game Link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/puppies-in-sea-trouble

The game is an experimental online multiplayer game where seafaring puppies need to be rescued by keeping a lighthouse running out of power manned.

The catch is, there is only one game. Everyone in the world plays the same game in real time saving puppies from drowning.

It's not only your fault if puppies die. You can blame others for not playing.

Anyways, we had a blast working on a game together. Sure hope no puppy dies!
