LD21 August 19–22, 2011

I’ll try to be in, I suppose.

Javascript, sfxr, GIMP, Raphael-JS (maybe), Autotracker-C, SoundManager 2.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5227720/HTML5/grid.html as basecode.

I may give up half-way through and make it with Ruby instead. If so, I’ll be using Ruby(duh) and Chingu/Gosu.

Me too

I missed the last one due to a combination of having to work and not liking the theme enough to justify squeezing it in to what time I did have, but I’m definitely in for this one.

I’ll be coding in c++ with SDL, SDL_image, vorbisfile, PortAudio, libfreetype and GLEW. It’s the same code framework I’ve used for the past few Dares. It’s badly in need of an update, but it’ll do for now.

For this Dare I’ve set myself the challenge of not moaning about the theme being too generic/boring/not double zombie rainbow and instead just getting on with making a game. And as I seem to go with a different art style for every LD game I’ve made so far, I’ve also been experimenting a bit with Inkscape and Paint Shop Pro. The upshot being that I’ve given myself the additional challenge of, whatever kind of game I wind up with, it must feature happy cartoon guys with wings (example below the cut).

I’m in too!

Hey!

I’m in! I’ll be using C# to create a windows game.
My tools of choice shall be the XNA framework, Paint.net and a yet undecided audio software.

If I end up needing some more advanced physics then jump/fall, I’ll be using Farseer.

I will also be taking a lot of caffine tablets and fast food.

Thinking about joining in for LD21

I’m considering jumping into LD21 this weekend, but just the jam this time.  I’m sort of on a roll with another project and I’m hesitant to change gears and risk losing my momentum there.  My current plan is to see how that’s going at the end of the week and work on that this weekend if I’m still being productive.  If the theme is something that works as a minigame or something, maybe I’ll look at implementing that.

I’m planning on using the same tools as usual (although I picked up a copy of Photoshop recently so that’ll be replacing Pixelmator and Pixen):

Hardware: Macbook Pro, Wacom Tablet

Game Engine, Languages, & Tools:  Unity 3D Pro 3.4, C#, MonoDevelop IDE

Graphics & Art: Corel Painter 10, Photoshop CS5, Blender 2.5

Music & Audio: sfxr, Wolfram Tones for music, GarageBand

I’m in and stuff

Hey guys I’m in. If this is starting on Friday I think I may be fairly busy then but I’m totally free Saturday so will be devving like a boss then.

Gonna be using Stencyl as I’ve had a fair bit of practice with it recently and have it working on a better computer now, as well as the usual LMMS, SFXR, Paint.NET etc.

I’m thinking of joining.

I’m somewhat new to Ludum dare and full gamemaking.

I have made maps/mods within unreal and Hammer before but.

Would using Stencyl be a viable means of entering this contest? Granted i do all the scripting myself.

I think stencyl is great to use! To me the point of the compo is about learning. If you are learning something who cares how you do it.

@wallacoloo I could imagine that if those tools were banned (Unity3d,stencyl,game maker,MMF) there would be a 3rd competition for us who arent as astute in game programming and development.

League of Legends

Nothing like some good LoL to take the edge off the nerves before (and perhaps during) the compo. Any players trolling around here? My screen name is the same in game as it is here.

It’d be absolutely awesome to get a team of all Ludum Dare.. Let’s do it!!!

I’m Elachim in game, and usually looking for people to play with. Maybe there should be an organised match Sunday?
17. Aug 2011 · 19:38 UTC
I’m down for that! I’m in GMT -7, so maybe 10:00 my time if that works?

I’m IN for LD21

As much as I can be, anyway.  We’ll be driving for 20 of the 48 hours, but I should still have a few hours to program and lots of time to think about it  (and a few hours of laptop battery if I’m not driving the whole time).

It’s my first real LD after starting with miniLD 28.  I’ll try to use the corona sdk like last time so it can go on the android market.  Also, since my game has to be so simple, I’ll try to port to pygame/pybox2d.  Hmm, seems a little like feature creep, and I haven’t even started the competition.  Actually, maybe I’ll start in python and port to the sdk since python is so awesomely awesome.

I’ll probably reuse my simple lua 2D vector class from the last miniLD which mostly comes from my python 2D vector class.
I make no guarantees about performance or correctness :) but here they are:
mymath.lua    vec2.py

I’ll post a pybox2d main loop before the competition if I get a chance to make one (I’m also trying to finish up my miniLD 28 entry).

If anyone has any extra suggestions besides just using py2exe for sharing a python/pygame app, please let me know.  (I usually use linux and haven’t shared programs on windows much. )

Here’s to hoping to avoid disaster and making a game a little more playable than my miniLD 28 entry.

I’m only going to be in the car for 6 hours out of the weekend. I’m looking forward to it as a “Forced Planning Session”.

I’m in!

This will be my second LD (my first being LD 20). I might not have all day on saturday, but on sunday I’ll have enough time for sure to hack an awesome game together!

I’ll be using C#/XNA again, and I sort of made a promise to myself to not create a platformer, unless the theme is perfect for a sequel to my LD 20 game Heroic Cat. But even then I’d like to try something else if possible. We’ll see. Next to XNA I’ll be using bfxr, audiotool, paint.NET. I won’t use a game engine or other 3rd party libraries, probably, unless I really need one.

I can’t wait!

(Also, I read the post about tags earlier today, but C# turns into C++ so it’s just XNA for now)

I’ve got to take a rain check this time…

I really wanted to do an “actual” LD after doing the mini, but there is a camping trip that  was scheduled months before the day of this, so I’m going to have to say that I can’t make it :(

Maybe next time?

I’m in like a raging bull in a red hall

Yup!  There’s a possibility that Mustafa çolpan (http://www.vimeo.com/user363731) will be joining me for the sake of the good ole’ days of MonaMnaMat (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2839.0), so yeah this should be fun.

Our gear of choice:

– Unity with Monodevelop
– Inkscape
– FruityLoops and SFXR for the pleasure of your ears

– and of course whatever mustafa uses for Art/Animation

So yeah, I’m in for real, hopefully I’ve learned something from the last time and I’ll be able to finish this one,  I’m pretty much determined this time.

Maybe in

First timer here and I will only say maybe since this is the one weekend where I had stuff to do that couldn’t be moved.  If I do anything it will probably be something simple due to time constraints.

Anyway I will be using:

Language: HaXe

Libraries: HaxePunk, Haxepunk Tiled and HaxePunk UI ( Made some changes to the UI  so uploading my own, only made something quick to test with for my game and as such changes may not really be that useful I intend to revisit it when it comes to make some real menus and will first then see if I can push it to the main branch).

IDE: Flashdevelop

GFX: Gimp or ASEprite

SFX: sfxr (No music since at least I know that I won’t have the time for that)

And that’s that, now I just hope I get an idea that’s possible to make within the time constraint I have.

I Think I’m In…

So I think I’m going to give it a go! It’s my first ever Ludum Dare, and therefore a bit intimidating! I’m a coder by day, but I haven’t really done any games programming since college, so should be interesting. I’m not even sure how much of the weekend I have free, but I’ll see what I can do.

I’ll most likely be using Flixel as that’s what I’m most familiar with at the moment, with some sfxr/bfxr for sound, and graphics drawn perhaps in Sprite Something for iPad. Good luck everyone!

Giving it a shot

I’ll be giving a go entering Ludum Dare 48h #21, which will be my first entry ever. (crossing fingers that I’ll actually get something playable done in such a short time)

The tools I’ll be using are: C++ (Eclipse being the IDE of choice) + SDL/OpenGL with my (very) WIP Framework, hopefully it’ll turn out to be usable even tho it is in very very early stage. I’ll have my trustworthy BlitzMax as back-up in case things get too hectic.

And for “art” I’ll be using: GIMP, TuxGuitar and SFXR

Tags: C++, GIMP, opengl, SDL

I’m in too

Well, we’ll see.. I haven’t had a great track record the past few LDs so let’s see if I can get out of my slump and get something done!

Tools of the trade this time shall be my new and untested engine framework wotsit – GLESGAE ( I’m in the process of sorting a svn out for the LD version just now, main version is here for your viewing pleasure: http://xp-dev.com/svn/glesgae  ) using OpenGL/GLES depending on which platform it’s running on and C++

For Graphics, the usual GIMP

For Audio, likely the wonderful sfxr and perhaps Milkytracker or LMMS … if I *cough* ever get that far… hah

One slight hiccup is I haven’t put any Windows support into the engine yet.. I probably should do that in the next few days and do general tidy up and commits of what I’ve got lying about.

Looking forward to it though :) Be a nice break from work!

Welcome to Ludum Dare 21!

Hi everybody!

It’s nearly time to kick off the latest, and what should be yet-again our biggest event yet: Ludum Dare 21.

Theme voting is well under way, with Round 4 closing soon, and Round 5 to follow with ~20 of the highest rated themes from Rounds 1-4. If you haven’t already, go cast your vote:

[ FINAL ROUND RESULTS ]

THEME: ESCAPE!

Hoping to avoid a repeat of April (15 minutes late ’cause I couldn’t flick the theme switch), we’ve since gone ahead and added a caching plugin to the website. Also this time, I’ll be checking the results early, before the swarm hits us.

And *NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK*, IRC and Twitter will be getting the results FIRST!

On to the festivities!

Keynote DOUBLE FEATURE!

Headlining our 21st event with a keynote is Breakdance McFunkypants. Check out this fantastic combination of hip shades, mad-skilled infants, and puppetry:

Sos is back with more of what you love, YOU!

Declarations of intent intermixed with some fine LD game footage. Check it out:

A huge thanks to both Sos and McFunkypants for making such extravagant videos. You guys are the best!

That’s it from me. Stay tuned for your Final Round theme voting, and the event. Good luck!

I’m in for the second time.

I participated in the Ludum Dare 20 Challenge and I’ll be returning for Ludum Dare 21. I’ll be using the XNA framework again this time. I may however, if the theme and my idea allow, work with HTML5 instead.

The models from the above image were created in my Ludum Dare 20 Entry.

Great! I’m using XNA this time round as well, the last two times I used my c++ framework but its proven disappointing to work with. I’m really not a good API designer.

Mood Music! :D

Here’s a playlist I’ve put together of some of my favorite Dubstep songs (which in my opinion are great for coding). Please enjoy!

Not sure how you get any coding done with everything on your desk bouncing in the air :)

Lots of superglue. Lots.

Just happy to be here

Hi!

I will be using C++ and OpenGL and SDL, or Flash, depending on theme.

-r

How do you prefer to code?

Hey, just to get a little discussion into how people like to get their coding done and the sort of things that they do.

For me it has to be sitting there with the lights off, beer (bud preffered) and music out of the speakers. Some people cant really concentrate with music on but I find it good for when you are working out just how that pesky jump sequence doesn’t seem to work especially when you thought that you had worked out all the errors but they just seem to have made new ones.

How about you? Good luck to all!

Most LDs I usually hit the energy drinks hard, crank up the music (something nice and stompy), and code. However recently I’ve been resorting to some fine ales instead of overdoing it on the caffeine – seems to be working wonders and keep me in the zone without feeling edgy.

I like to work during the day and get some sleep.

I tend to work best early in the day, and I like to get up early to get a good start on the day. Last LD I felt like I was getting a lot of work done when I was so tired I almost fainted, but that had to be my imagination. Whenever I really need to concentrate I put on my headphones with really loud music, and shuts the whole wide world out. This works in short bursts for me.
