LD28 December 13–16, 2013

i’m in

so, the weekend after next is ludum dare.

also i am traveling to visit friends and family for the holiday.

i am so doing this.

i’ll probably do a warm-up game this weekend.

i haven’t really done much game dev in a while :(

so i’m really looking forward to this ludum dare

i would like to make something cool

but above all i would like to make something that is fun and enjoyable for everyone here

and finish it within 72 hours

i will be on my laptop. against my better judgement, i think i’m going to stick with what i know and use Unity3D.

Blender, if i need to make any custom 3D objects. i might try to minimize the need for this. keep it simple.

GIMP, of course.

i’d use a tracker program to do music, but something tells me that will either involve a lot more work than necessary and/or involve gathering a bunch of external content to use as instruments. so, i’ll just stick with famitracker for doing the music and probably the sound effects, too. it will sound like a nes game. maybe i’ll throw in some bfxr just to mix things up.

audacity for any audio mixing or digital recording i may do

that’s all i can think of as far as tools, besides using sublime text for editing and monodevelop for debugging.

let’s do this    :]

Warmup Weekend – Ludum Dare 28

As another Ludum Dare looms, it’s time again for Warmup Weekend!

So! Did you somehow skip all the jams going on these past few weeks? Then between now and Ludum Dare 28′s start time, you should probably make sure that your tools work. Make some art, import it, and draw it on screen. Make some sounds, import them, and play them on cue. If you’re using a new development tool, figure out the development cycle. Learn how to make a release too!

Bullet point summary:

  • No rules or limits. This is practice.
  • Learn your development tools! Write some code, run it.
  • Make some art, get it on screen, make it move.
  • Print some text to the screen. Print some text to a log (if applicable).
  • Make some sound, get it in game, make it play.
  • If you’re motivated enough, make your experiments in to a game!
  • Make something that should take “hours”, not 2 days.
  • Then package it up, put it online.
  • No time or day limit. But if you have no other plans this weekend, why not?

If you like what you’ve done, feel free to share it.

the best weekends ever ^_^

It’s really not a game, but in Unity I created a United States map with flags for all 50 states. I really just wanted to learn how to use the Interactive Cloth feature in Unity. I think it turned out well, but with the wind enabled it runs at a crawl on my gaming PC (nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti video card) with all 50 flags. Strangely enough, the same wind simulation runs fine on my Mac Book Pro, which I thought would have less graphics processing power than my gaming PC. Maybe there are some enhancements with the Unity web plugin on the Mac. I would be interested in hearing how the performance is for others with the wind simulation enabled.

Teamwork?!

Are we ok to build a game as a team? There will be 2 of us, 1 Graphics 1 Programming.

Sure, but only if you take part in the Jam. Compo requires you to work alone.

Ok thanks :)

I’m in

after watching for about a year and helping my brother last jam, I’m finally stepping in with a team of my own.

the most experienced coder in the group is doing art, which should prove interesting.

I am excited and a little nervous, this is going to be great!

Cheers!

Oh boy Ohboy Oboy!!! Here we go again.

So I guess an obligatory “I’m in” post is in order. Here you go.

This will be my second LD and I cant wait. I will be using the following tools:

Unity 3D

Blender

Photoshop Elements(With a wacom bamboo graphics tablet)

And if I have time I will implement music made using famitracker with an old Yamaha keyboard as a midi controller.

I’m not sure whether I will make a 3D or 2D game seems how unity supports 2D now. Last time I went more towards 2d but it was still a 3d game. This time I’m not sure however. I will probably decide once the theme is announced.

This weekend I’m going to put a game in the warm up thing probably. It will be a 2D game. I’ve already started work on it. It seems strange but its a game where you play as a suicide bomber who explodes on contact with other people as they slowly crowd into a town square (weird huh?).

I’m in!!!!!

Time for another ld! this time i’m going to be making a browser game with clojurescript

i’m in!

so I’m in for my first LD. I’m gonna be coding in C++ using visual studio, and making art in paint (I can’t tear myself away from WinXP paint) and hopefully ableton live for the music? I’m coming home from a party from the night before so I might be hungover jammin. cool. can’t wait.

i’m in

Hey guys,

Ludum Jam will be my first attempt to program a game, so I hope, I won’t screw it up.
As I am not even an adult, I hope I can make something good 😉

Have Fun 😀

…In?

Oh boy. I’m not so sure about this. Exam on Saturday and on Monday and LD?

Haha… I guess we’ll see. 😛

I’m thinking I may try to hammer out something quick… something relatively no-nonsense? Probably depend on how much gas I have left in the tank. Those (blasted) exams have to have priority over this, unfortunately. Guess we’ll see how hardy I’m feeling.

Anyway, tools:

Engine: Probably Stencyl; possibly Python and Pygame

Graphics: MSPaint and/or Gimp

Audio: PXTone and sfxr

Simple, simple, simple…

QQQQQQQ – Yet Another LibGDX Basecode

Well here I am with a LibGDX basecode for LD28. It is just a combination of various libraries I greedily taken from Badlogicgames forum (http://www.badlogicgames.com/forum/) – LibGDX creator’s forum. I haven’t tested it and will probably create a warmup weekend entry soon. My aim is to build a 2D game, maybe yet another platformer, maybe not.

Here’s the download link: http://www.filedropper.com/qqqqqqq

I’m very very sorry for the hugely inappropiate download link for the basecode, because I’m quite in a panic state when I upload it, so I just Googled a “free file upload without login” and upload it there. When I realized my mistake, I’m too lazy to upload the file to another place because it took a good 15 minutes to upload – by the way, I’m in Indonesia. I promise I’ll use a “more appropiate” download link next time.

At this time, I am quite busy with various projects and my personal website, but I think I have some spare time to create a warmup and test the basecode. There’s a college exam for the next week (from 9th to 14th), but it’s not much of a problem (heh). I’m racing to complete the projects before LD28. Heh.

Apart from the basecode, I also used Bfxr and Sfxr. Guess you have also downloaded it, so I don’t have to post the download link. I don’t know about background music and don’t know how to create one – perhaps I’ll try and come up with some “creative ideas”.

From another LibGDX user, good luck and have fun!

Totally in I’m not even kidding

I missed the last compo due to a move so I am eagerly throwing my hat in the ring. I will start my warmup game this weekend.

Tools

  • Unity3D(C#)
  • MSPaint
  • Audacity for music if there is time

I’m in!

and i will be streaming this time 😀

going to use flash cc, and maybe some photoshop

Almost Forgot About Entering!

Almost forgot about entering!
Here’s what I’ll be using:

Language: C++
Libraries: SDL
Art: Gimp
Audio: Audacity
IDE: Code::Blocks

Just removed Windows the other day (Linux is better). I just reinstalled it as a virtual machine. Thanks a lot Microsoft for giving out disks that take 20+ attempts to install because not all of the required files can be found on the disk that you sold me until around the 20th time I try to install it.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim in. hurray!

I’m in again. Looking forward to it. It is a great reason to be at the computer all weekend and sport it up with great people that like the same thing that i like: game creation!

I’ll be running with:

Flashpunk/as3

audacity

tyler moltz’s tiled system

paint.net/photoshop(if reason allows)

Noel berry’s lighting system(if needed)

good luck to you all!

haha!

haha!

I’m in!

This will be my second Ludumdare, last time it went were well! But this time I will start from scratch, because last time I used a framework.

I will be using :

Java

Paint.net

Pickle

SFXR / BFXR

I need ideas how to create simple music, I have a keyboard but I don’t know how to start and which program…

Do you have to title these posts “I’m in!”?

Regardless, I’m in!
My first one and I am excited.
I just want to see what I can make and hopefully call a game in the tight timespan of 48 hours!
I’ll be using:

Unity3D (JavaScript)
Paint
Blender (Propbably not it takes me like two days to make a simple door. Hahahaha.)

Anyway, I can’t wait to play all of your games and I wish the best of luck to all of you!

The non-optional “I’m in!” post

Hey ho! I’m in, and this time, it is ON! Third time’s a charm!

If you’re interested, here’s my weapons of choice:

– Eclipse / ADT + libgdx (for the code)

– GIMP (for graphics)

– Psycle (for music and sfx)

– Audacity (for audio tweaking)

– Blender, if needed (for some special graphics)

At the moment, I’m doing some warm-up stuff, setting up libgdx, verifying that all the builds run and so on. If I get something done, I’ll definitely post it. :)

Programmer newbie here…

Hi, I am just starting out on programming, but I think I know my way around my Game Maker for now.

Just a question, can I use some of the open music and open sprites that I can find around the internet for LD Jam? Assuming that I have the legal rights to use them…

Thanks.
