LD28 December 13–16, 2013

10 hour monster stream over…

And I have quite a lot done on my idea…

Some *massive* bugs as well… But they will either be squashed tomorrow, or ignored while I get the other features I have planned in…

For now, I present to you my WIP: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/79467350/Ludum%20Dare/28/index.html

Arrow keys to move, up to jump, and down to search the items in the background… Avoid the green squares…
Or don’t, it is quite hilarious when you don’t…

Batteries Not Included

Presenting my game idea!

Based on the theme “You Only Get One”, you take control of three separate robots who all have to share the same battery. Each robot has his own key traits, and they also each consume battery power at a different rate. Learning to balance all this power and ability will be key to your success in this puzzle platformer!

Things are moving along rather nicely. I’ve pretty much programmed the basic movements on all of the robots, though I wouldn’t be surprised if I have to tweak things later. For now, you can muse on what each of these robots might look like or do.

Late I’m in

This is going to be hard, only got saturday and I usually find it hard to finish.
I’m really happy about the theme though!

I’m going to use Unity3D for this one.
Good luck to everyone!

Cats and rockets

After sleep, the rocket thing didn’t feel that inspirational. So went back to drawing board. A cat, on a skateboard, has used up 8 of his 9 lives.

Day 1 – I got started!

day1

So I’m using Unity’s new 2D stuff and hopefully this will be my first game made with it! Game is pretty much “You only get one true friend”. Quick playable web-build here: > LINKY! <

Yay for Problems!

I would like to thank Java for not working as an Applet right now! c:

I got to a point that I wanted and decided to make sure it would still run as an Applet. Well, turns out it isn’t able to load the images in the .jar file. I don’t want this to be a problem, but in 15 minutes I haven’t figured it out. Not much time to waste on it, any info on why this would happen is greately appreciated.

Here we go again

It’s Saturday morning here in Argentina and I already wasted a lot of time, but I think I can still make it.

I’m using my own opengl-based engine, Crimild, and standard tools for asset creation: Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, Blender, Audacity and Sfxr for sounds.

Wish me luck!

Signing In, you only have one … cow?

This is the second time I’ve tried entering but last time I didn’t finish.  Now I’m going to keep things simple.

Idea:

  • Resource based farming survivor
  • Your marooned
  • You have 1 cow (/alien cow like creature) and some plant seeds
  • Each day the government comes and demands contributions
  • Art direction http://captainmurphy.xxx/ (+18 content nsfw)

This sounds like its going to be really boring but I want to get started so hopefully I can finish something. Maybe I can balance fun into it??

One chance to success – LD28

This is my first Ludumdare and I think it is going well.

Got collisions, tutorial, character movement, and some lame art

Tutorial

Update 1

So we have some stuff going now. We have a rock and it can be thrown around and some pseudo map generation is 50% done. Day and night cycles are also completed. This is our pitch:

“You are a person thrown into a crazy world with nothing but a vegetation growing rock, the world is a scary place with puzzles that lead you astray and scary enemies against you, but you must conquer the world of Vita. Using pseudo random generation, the player embarks on a journey to face the unpredictable world, Vita.”Selection_001

Starting coding for my game!

I’ve thought up the story for my text-based game that’s about surviving (or not :P) a shipwreck. I’m beginning coding in XNA Framework as I’m currently only well versed in C# and i can’t think up of anything better to use for a text based game.

As asked in the rules, i’m declaring that I may use some small base classes for printing text in xna.

#YOGO Mom!

That’s right; love her or hate her, you only get one mom. She cleans up your mess, and for what? Twenty years later you’re off with another woman! Mom’s of the world, we salute you.

ld48-4I did not set my ambitions high; this is my first game jam and I wanted to make something I knew I’d get done. I’m not going to win an award but at least I can say I did it and gain insight from others.

#YOGO Mom! is a simple game where you are set against the clock to clean up the mess left behind after a LD48 event by your indie dev husband or child. I’m about 60% complete, with graphics and menus the main obstacle to tackle between now and the end of ludum time as we know it.

… and it complies with the #NOKILL side quest. :)

It has been really great following everyone’s progress via twitter, you are all amazing, don’t stop now!

Awesome man! We cant wait to play it!

im in but late

This is my first ever LD so im not expecting much but its gonna be fun.

Start time:2.32, construct 2 or java script, graphics gale and idk what im going to use for sound yet.

I’m in.

This morning I felt inspired to get up and make a game. I have loads of homework and other obligations this weekend, but I can always get to those tomorrow…. Right?

I’m gonna be working with JavaLib, an open source library I helped make, built on top of Libgdx.

https://github.com/LostCodeStudios/JavaLib

My art will be done in Gimp, my sounds in bfxr.

Time to get started.

Castle Toppler – Update 1

Hello everyone! I realise I’m probably a little late for my first update, but sleep is an important thing! ;-;

Anyways. Here’s what I’ve got so far.

LudumDare_Pic1

The player rushes towards the castle automatically. This is castle level one, and the plan is to have between 5 and 10 levels. The dot in the centre is the aimer (which really doesn’t help much) and the tiny white bar to the bottom left is the power bar. The longer you hold the left mouse button, the harder your spear will fly.

Physics are also in place. When the spear hits the bottom block, it all comes tumbling down! Wheeeee!

Anyways that’s all for now. I’ll keep everyone posted, and I hope to have a finished game sometime tomorrow. Until then, good luck!

This is the part where I pretend like I can draw

The base mechanics are in place, so I needed to come up with what the actual premise of the game is, and to start making some actual assets.

When in doubt, go with a pun.

LineArttopHeavy

Top Heavy!!! … get it?

The Feeding of the 5000 Arseholes

(working title, I dunno)

Alright, I’m done for tonight, I think. I’ve been plodding along all day and don’t feel I’ve gotten as far as I need to be. Energy levels just dropped somewhere along the line. Hopefully the looming-deadline effect will kick in tomorrow.

The concept of the game is that you’re Jesus, and one of your apostles has rocked up with 5000 people and expects you pull some kind of fucking miracle or something and feed them all. Wanker. Anyway, he gives you one loaf of bread and a fish and tells you the party is on in the evening.

You could tell him to go fuck himself, but you’re Jesus and you have a reputation to protect, so somehow you need to multiply your supply of bread and fish by a lot. Unfortunately, miracles don’t just happen on the drop of a hat. You’re doing it the hard way.

And so you’re meant to trade with other people for things they want until you’ve multiplied your bread and fish to the required amount.

This idea sounded less ambitious in the morning, but oh well.

With all apologies to Jesus, here’s Jesus:jesus2

collision nearly done

Screenshot from 2013-12-14 16:46:31

I’m nearly done with collision but it’s a little off(ok extremly off). I just need to find what I did wrong and fix it, hopefully before my tea runs out!

Woops…

So I have accidentally designed an incredibly punishing game. Like, really punishing.
Like, you will get really really mad at my game. 😛
I guess that will happen when you have been working on it for over 12 hours straight.
Oh well, I’m following it through now, atleast it will be good for seperating the boys and men in the LD community. 😉

This is level 3. 😛

I enjoy making those type of games 😀 But I also hate the creator of hard games, so in that respect – I hate myself.

I used to make difficult games, too, but then I took… no, I didn’t take anything.

Well, difficult games are quite unenjoyable. Many people don’t really like them. Because, well, for them it’s harder, they didn’t make this game. You might want to make a more gentle difficulty slope.

Only One Ludum Dare 28

I’ve decided to take a personal route.  Motivation to work on my own projects is a real issue for me.  I’m efficient and always deadline oriented when I’m doing projects for (or with) other people, but when it’s just me…distraction and self-doubt creep in.  But not this time!  I will finish this!!!

Here is my title screen.  Hope you like it and cheer me on!

OnlyOneLudumDare28

First ludum dare^_^

Hey!:D

I’ve wanted to enter the ludum dare for a while, but never realised it was happening until about half way through! I still started 5 hours late (i live in britain, so it started at 2 oclock D’: ) but other than that, everything’s going great:P

It says in the rules I need to declare any personal code I’ve used that was created prior to the event? I didn’t use much, just a couple of files copied from other projects and modified to suit my needs, to save a few minutes. I can include them here?

Scratch that, I have no idea how to attatch files. I tried to add the .java files as media, but they weren’t allowed for security reasons (they weren’t media, i’m guessing)

I’d rather not post them here, as there’s a few hundred lines of code (I like spacing things out) so if there’s a way I could attatch them, I’d be greatful of a quick nudge in the right direction:)

Anyway, I’m using the slick2d libraries built on top of lwjgl in java. The mechanics of the game are all done, the rest of the time available is gonna be used to test and prettify it all!

See you later^_^

First day progress

No name for the game yet, hurphurp. Pantless humans and gigantic bird.

Pretty simple game too, code complete by now and some sounds are added (obviously not in the gif :) ).

Progress Update 1!

Well, 7 hours in now and we’ve gotten to this point:

7 Hours In

Not sure why I’m working in black and white, but anyway, the idea of the game is you have but one objective at any one time. However, there are a bunch of micromanagement issues keeping you from doing it. We will see how it goes.

We’re doing a thing.

So, we’re in on this, making something for the jam. Working through Unity, Maya, Blender and Magix MX Premium, we’re hoping to create a hectic and climactic battle scene in which you must guide your spaceship through a battlefield, in order to save the universe or something (plot in the works) by destroying the ship heading up the invasion of the planet by firing an uber-powerful explosive into a weakspot. No prizes for guessing how many bombs you have available, and even reaching the ship won’t be easy, we kind of want things to actually feel like the desperate final battle, and those are never easy. Early days yet, due to some delays in starting up, but we’re optimistic thus-far.

First update, first Ludum dare

First update! I was a bit delayed with this because of having to go to A&E to pick up my girlfriend (she’s fine) and my car wouldn’t start so had to walk! So yeah, I’ve channelled that frustration into this magnificent game:

update1

Using Unity obviously! The game is ‘You Only Get One… Season of Firefly’ where the protagonist goes to take revenge on Fox for cancelling Firefly.

**teasing**

Really small update!

I’m working on the collision system for my little FPS, as soon as I have something screenshot-able 😉 I will keep you updated. Must leave at 1pm, it’s finals week and I got an exam on a saturday 😛

Best of luck to everyone, the biggest prize is to participate !

Hope its not too late…

Seems like im a bit late with first post but here its is:

My game is about “Look you got only 1 minute to defend your planet”. And as you can see  you are playing as this white shield(pong?) and you need to defend it from Asteroids or Stars? For ONE minute. If you secceed you won! Im trying to make this look like early Atari TV games.

Okay, so I made an acid pool that kills you.

I made quite some progress, so I decided to upload current engine progress so you can check out all of it.

I know that’s not much, but it’ll change pretty soon, I promise! 😀

Mechanics Working – Tomorrow Content

LD28 12ish hours in

LD28 12ish hours in

I made some good progress today.  The mechanics of the game are mostly in and working, which frees me up to work on the juice.

So what exactly is the game all about?  If you can’t guess, don’t worry – all will be clear in a mere 30 or so hours!

Look at those gritty colors, YEAH!!!

ld28 update 1: off to a… start

off to a... start

So I have 1 room, with a name-less character, 2 stats and $1.

It’s actually going better than it looks, events are implemented, aims/quests are implemented and I have a solid outline. Slightly wishing I had a writer to do the descriptions, but I’ll go through them once the game is a bit more… playable.

Finally time to get started

After getting hyped up about competing in my first Dare for ages, I managed to break my left wrist in the week. But after a morning of Christmas shopping, I’m ready to single hand idly take on the Ludum Dare (no pun intended). After a bit of brain storming, I’ve decided to create a simple, randomized Pokemon/Final Fantasy style fighting game in which you will only get to use each fighter once. I will be using Unity as the engine, writing in C# on MonoDevelop, creating graphics using Pain.Net and Inkscape and attempting to create some music and sound effects with Audacity and either Garage Band or FL Studio.

Magical Steve Out.

What I’m cooking

My second LD, but this time I’m joining the solo comp. At first I thought about giving up, given the theme. But after a good night of sleep I came up with a rather decent idea (imho). I’m focusing more on the artsy stuff ATM, won’t rely on top notch mechanics.

Trying to emulate sumi-e paintings.

Trying to emulate sumi-e paintings.

Morning time and such as and the Iraqs

Well I skipped breakfast because I just wanted to jump in and figure out this Stencyl stuff. I’m very encouraged I’ll figure this all out eventually, don’t know if it will be today. I’ve started and stopped a bunch of times. Been reading a lot of stuff on the web and tearing apart different things to see how things react. I’m really enjoying myself though! Don’t think I would have had the motivation to even do this if it weren’t for the competition.

After a restart and about an hour of work…

So, here’s the result after an hour or so. I restarted everything, because the original idea didn’t really work out as intended. Now, it’s going to be a chess with a twist! Of the last hour, I spent most of my time modeling and texturing the tokens. Now, it’s time for the game logic… And, if you want to see me struggle through this, check out my stream at http://www.twitch.tv/manabreak_ld :)

So, we started out with a build-server that was offline, and then continued to take ourselves offline for waaay too long, little chance now of getting it done, but I think we will continue the endeavour soon ?

Blogging break

It’s social break ! Let’s have some preview of what I did :

hammer-title

My game is about hammering things to death… Yeah, the only thing you get for Christmas was a HAMMER. But a huge one. Let’s start smashing !

workinprogress1

For now you can smash… at nothing because enemies are not yet implemented (nor drawed). Then we will need some blood spiting out of cute things, some UI and some SMASHED or KNOCKED DOWN TO THE GROUND texts.

See you later for more shattered todeath stuff !

First day results

First version GD is finish, now polish and interface, and begin programming

Progress and by that i mean sleeping is amazing.

Got the band back together. After some excellent work from the team  on the everyone goes to bed front.  We are managing to get a working prototype up and running this morning. The world map is working and I’m still trying to get our fantastic art loaded in from the scans.

Could use some tea though.

Platform engine

Inspired by Pirates of the Carribean: you only get one bullet.

A platformer engine took me 90 minutes, so that’s pretty awesome so far.

Another 60 minutes to design the world layout. Still need to get a large part of the jungle into place.

It’s about time to start working on sprites. Tiles are already done.

To bad I can’t enter

Well I can’t enter this Ludum dare

2 main reasons

– I’m already so late that I can’t work my idea out in time

– I got studying to do because of having 2 exams monday and tuesday

But guys, I’ll be hee in 4 months! I hope I can get something in that LD

Tho I still look for a art creator, so if anyone wants to team up and practise for the next LD feel free to contact me

skype: StevieTheBest

It’s not really a game yet, but…

Would you like to test it? 😀
Controls are simple. You’ll find ’em out. The wall cannot break yet, but it’ ll all come soon!
I know about the graphics. I am not the best artist!

Tea…

now I spilled my tea over me and my keyboard and still stuck att collision detection. I’m running out of stuff to drink to.Now I have refill my damn tea again!

Project “DungeONE” haha.. yeah, it’s kinda cheesy name

This is my second LD and will still be developed using HTML5. This time I’m planning to use Phaser (http://phaser.io) and integrated it with ROT.js (https://github.com/ondras/rot.js) for the front end. While the back end (what back end? on that latter ;)), will be using NodeJS and some libraries (expressjs, ntwitter, etc).

DungeONE is about a roguelike where you explore a dungeon with one: weapon, armor, life and character. Dead characters will be permanently dead and other players will be able to see their tombstone and loot their stuff. This is why I’ll need some backend to save the stuff on a database. You’ll still be able to create new characters with your twitter account (why twitter account? well, I’m thinking to add some sort of simple social mechanic, but not entirely sure how it will be implemented regarding gameplay). To make this interesting, I’m planning to allow some evolution or modification on the weapon or armor so players have options to loot or leave the grave behind. Still needs a lot of thinking and deciding as this is just the basic idea.

Anyway, the obligatory screenshot:

Picture 1

Successfully integrated ROTjs with Phaser, dungeons are generated randomly 😀

Edit: added URLs on links

Some graphics

So I woke up 9 a.m., which granted me five magical hours of sleep, and SUDDENLY ART! This is the concept of the character, and then the sprites that will be used in the game. I’m not used with pixel art (or art at all), so I kept it simple.

spritesheetish_mmacielm

made with Paint.NET

I also did a crap background with a lot of photoshop and filters. I know it looks really artificial, but let’s pretend it will look better hidden by the other things (the playable part itself).

1329-14122013_mmacielm

Now let’s make some actual level design, shall we?

Update 1

screen1

Here’s what I’m working at the moment :)

(you only get one life)

I’m building a platform game where you have to rush to the end. The game resets everytime you die, so no errors allowed.

Things are still rough, placeholders everwhere, I’m going to work on the graphic later on :)

I have nothing to show you. Yet.

But I am working. Hard.

I have nothing to say about what I’m making except that I’m making it.

I hope to get my first official screenshot posted before I go to bed much later tonight. If I don’t get that far, then I’m doomed.
I simply have to get this game looking presentable by the end of the day. The core mechanic is there, I just gotta get rid of this ugly placeholder art.
I usually start off with at least some half decent sprites so I stay motivated while testing. Trying something new, so we’ll see how it goes!

That’s a clever way of doing it. I’d personally choose the one on the right, she doubles as a prize AND a place to sit after a long dungeon crawl!

Scene with props starting to come together

So my scene has a selection of props and is starting to look like I imagined it just a bit.

Going for some simple low poly graveyard props.  Your character will have only one minute of light available to navigate through the hazards and combat the inahibtants.

You may of course choose to turn your light off to conserve it at any time if you think you can survive in the dark …

That Feeling…

… when your program works and you just feel so great because you worked forever for it to work.

I gots that feel right now.

The level generation is a bit crude, and needs work, but I can finally start working on the key game mechanics!

Going well so far

Yesterday I wasn’t very excited for this Ludum Dare anymore. But when I woke up this morning I had an idea for a game and the excitement was back.

5h later I have a playable version with a few tutorial levels. Now I’m moving on to making it look good. Then some more levels and the game is done.

Just a little update….

So we have a game idea and art style but now we are struggling with how to implement it without making it too easy or too hard, but here’s a gif!

Here is the current status of my entry: Hard Point.

I had very hard time to find something to do with theme but finally reached on something to work on.

Player controls a tank fighting enemy vehicles in these islands. Each destroyed vehicle have a chance to leave a special device to be installed at tank’s single hard point (you get only one).

The game …

contentment kənˈtɛntm(ə)nt/ noun  1.You only have one day

First things first. This is my first ever Ludum Dare and I woke up 12 hours late with a stinking hangover! so let’s see how this goes.

It didn’t take me too long to come up with my idea and it is going to be a kind of text adventure where if I have time I will make the player physically moving around an environment.

The idea is that you start at 7am and the clock runs until 10pm. Throughout the day you will come across many choices and these will impact your three …. “measurements” for lack of a better word.

Contentment

I am going to periodically be posting snippets of any code I do so here is the first. This is my “Scene Manager” which will basically drive the whole game. You should be able to see what it is doing from the basic setup at the moment.

On second thoughts I would first like to ask if this is allowed? Is it ok to share code publically? I don’t want to be disqualified so soon haha

I have seen many toolkits, code frameworks, etc shared publicly in this, over the years. Heck, I think Phil Hassey shared his git/javascript framework he’ll be using right before it started. So I don’t think it’s an issue.

Saturday Morning Checklist

ld28bombersmall

Things that are done:

  • Simple movement and animations
  • Placing bombs
  • Bombs explode
  • Explosions fade
  • Basic sounds

Things that I plan to do today:

  • Add walls and obstacles
  • Enable damaging/destroying some walls
  • Destroyed blocks sometimes drop items
  • Player gets killed by explosions

I think I’ll call it a night.

I’ve been going since the theme was announced, and boy am I tired.
I’m actually rather impressed with myself I got so much done and managed to persevere so strongly. 😛
So, I got *basically all the gameplay done and *basically all the graphics done.
At this stage it’s really just level design and then audio, but I can’t find any good free software to assist in that department, so i’ll save that for tomorrow.
Anyway, goodnight and goodluck everybody!

*I will probably decide I need to do more. 😛

So now I have something that is kinda playable but not very fun. Its way more “advanced” than my first attempt at ludum dare, but still a lot more ugly:)

FINALLY!

Screenshot from 2013-12-14 17:45:35

Finally figured out what i did wrong with collision detection and then I sat there 7 minutes and just laughed. Now I can finally finish jumping and start adding features!

Quarterly Progress

Running a little late on this report, had to take the dog for a stroll first…

Twelve hours in and I have the core conceit in place, but barely touched the graphics and audio yet; I usually do all of that on day two, after the gameplay is as finished as I can make it. Screenshots aren’t going to help you much yet, but you can play the current checked-in build at http://facticiusvir.github.io/YouOnlyGetOne/Builds/Web/Web.html – WASD/arrow keys and mouse to move, click/Ctrl to fire, Tab to switch modes. Now to build the tutorials…

Progress update of the day!

It the end of the day for me… after 14 hours of ups and downs, I think we are confident for the end game this time 😉

Yeah, you heard that right, “WE”.

I had Isaac as my artist and Olivia as my composer (although she didn’t accomplish anything just yet, composing is hard).

Here’s the summary of today’s hardwork:

– First few hours in clueless about what to do… but I have forced upon myself some simple game idea first just to get it going.

– Then Isaac and Olivia came to help, I managed to come up an awesome game idea which focuses mostly on story and graphic instead. We started working on it.

– We have managed to turn the impossible into possible. I thought I may lose this Jam because I didn’t create anything my first few hours in, but luckily we did almost 50% progress today… Great Job! 😀

It will be a game about you saving your wife from someone who is about to assassinate her and take the diamond bag away from her. You have one bullet loaded in your sniper, and that’s it. You will only get one shot on the one who will be the killer. However, things didn’t go so well even after you have saved her…

So, that’s it for today, I had to sleep now… need more energy for tomorrow’s battle 😛

I’M IN!…

I’m using a tech I’ve never used before (OpenFL), which I know better than to do after two years of LD.

I’ve got a crazy ambitious idea, which I also know better than to do after two years of LD.

I started 4 hours late due to a concert, which means that, aside from sleep, I’ve had almost two hours to work so far, which have mostly been spent on brainstorming and research to see if my idea was even possible.

It’s going to be an interesting 2 days.

Ludum Dare 28: Progress Is Priority

Phew! What a day

I’ve done some huge progress.

What is the game?

You are the Hitman inside a night club, you have to kill as many people as possible using ONE BULLET, you have to use physics and bullet trajectory and all that shizzle to line up your shot to kill as many as possible!

Sorry for no graphics or anything, I need to refine them a little 😀

Watch at www.twitch.tv/cmnatic at 4:00 GMT (London) to see it live!

Good luck guys!

Hello People of all nations!

We the TSB have been asked by the Glorious Supreme Leader, the Shining Son of the Best Country to take part in the Ludum Dare.

Obviously we have answered simoultaneosly “YES!”, answering the call of our Glorious Leader we haver left our fields, our tractors and livestocks, our families and children to do our Glorious Patriotic duty.

Because of the Grace of our Leader we will be using our old sprites from our old games.

Of course it is allowed by the Ludum Dare JAM rules:

“All libraries, middleware, content creation, and development tools are allowed.”

Dreads, I has one

Hi

Oh My God. I started working on implementing a zelda-like “scroll” in Quintus for when you leave a room. I started. At like 10 am. Now it is 16:49 pm and I am _almost_ done. This is definitely a wake-up call: my experience making engines is zero. I’ve made 1 Twine game and 1 puzzlescript, and jumping from that into doing almost everything myself (Quintus provides some stuff, but not much for the RPG genre yet) is a bigger thing than I expected. Even with a programming background, a good amount of math, and excellent Javascript powers… this is a challenge! Apparently, practice makes perfect.

Will I finish? Yes. Will I have to change what finished means? Maybe.

My original idea is pretty special, and I’d really like to make it. It is a “twist” that would be so, so sweet. However, I am putting zelda-like-ness first. If by mid-day tomorrow I have a zelda-like worthy of being called “like zelda”, then I will start working on the twist. If not, I will submit it as a 1-heart zelda-like.

Ugh!

Switching ideas.

I know this is pretty much a cardinal sin in LD but the adventure game idea just wasn’t working out. I couldn’t get the puzzles as good as I wanted to so I’m going to try another idea, which is a kind of first person dungeon crawler. We’ll see how it goes.

First Scene

Making a Date Sim, where you only have one chance to get with the girl. And there is only 1 girl you can win with. Still on the cutscene and not on the gameplay bit.

Challenging theme for LD28

This ludum dare them “you only get one” makes no sense logically (to some people) so this time i have decided to make a choice game where it all depends on the choices you make.

Will i be done?

Possibly

How many lines of code will be used?

A lot over 1000

I might be in – 34 Hours remain [LD-29]

I’ve been working on and off today on some Socket.io JS programming, in the hopes of making a mini-multiplayer game for this Ludum Dare. A bit of a change from the graphics heavy 3D games I usually aim to make, but a nice change nonetheless.

After about 3-4 hours – I had a nice blank file (<– this tweet seems to be broken right now?) and 1 line of code. Looking at things now, a few more hours on, and I can at least say I’ve made something so far which actually does something.

So not hugely confident I’ll be looking at something playable in the next 34 hours, but I did manage to get a simple chat program working using sockets to send/recieve data via a server script to/from multiple clients. So… thats something! Its my first time using socket.io so progress has been slow, havent even looked at the game-engine side of things but I’ll be seeing what magic I can make happen with Phaser.io tomorrow.

Current state of the to-do list (red line was where I was hoping to get to by the end of tonight – so close):

Final step - Make rest of Game D:

Final step – Make rest of Game D:

Now, time for sleep! (pulling an all-nighter on the first night is the worst move you could make, for anyone currently wondering about this!)

We’re in! … a bit late

We’re in for this LD Jam! after trying about a year ago and failing miserably we’ve spent the entire year improving and we’re in again! We’re using the Quintus Engine, and we’re hoping to have a prototype ready soon. We started last night but were too enthusiastic about getting started and forgot to make an intro post, so here’s that!

Update #1

Not really a fan of this theme – it’s the first one LD I’ve joined in that I’ve struggled for any ideas.

Anyway, I’ve ended up starting this:

Update1

If you have no idea what’s going on then don’t worry, nor do I.

I’m In for the Ludum Dare Jam

Hello everybody!

I am going to try to make a Text based game in Java because I started late and I still have one more exam to write!

Still have to think of how to involve the theme but I have ideas! :)

Hope everyone has fun!

Good luck!

Progress report three

Done some more work on the art and the controls.

I’ve also added some enemies and some collectables which you’ll find in handy dandy gif format below:

collectkill

(UPDATE 1) – Ugly engine sprites, I love you <3

screen 1

Hello people 😀

As a programmer, most of the time I deal only with ugly squared blocks made with enormous laziness.  I think most programmers with no art skills whatsoever do the same for developing the engine, am I right? ;P

But hey,Those blocks do cool stuff ,trust me!!!  😉

Well, this is my first post for this LD and I’m using AS3 with flashpunk. For graphics… well that’s the artist’s stuff lol

Hope you all have fun!

PS: LD wallpaper = 😀

Another fellow ugly squared blocks artist? Welcone to the club…

Matchbox

I might be falling behind but I will not give up! NEVAR!

mbox

The idea:
You’re a pyro with just one last match. Burn!

Joining in!

I’ve decided to participate in this years Ludum Dare, aiming to build a platformer style game, that’s as far as I’ve got so far.

First progress

I made really slow progress and I am not sure if I can finish the game in time. Anyway, here is a screenshot of what i have done so fare. I did not like the theme so I just made the simplest game mechanic i could come up with. You have one life, there is one kind of enemie and you have one weapon.

Progress, slow

It will be action puzzle i guess. I thought it about 4-5 hours, but i think i spent too much time over this.. It will be about some hero who kill ghost and you need only one attack to kill it. You need to finish some puzzle in few second to make damage when you’re attacking.
My progress is kinda slow…
Bg

Here some background.
Now i’m going to draw the hero and ghost :3
Good luck guys!

The Trail WIP

Introducing The Trail: Look! More hidden footprints! Edition (or maybe just “The Trail”, or whatever else I come up with as the weekend nears its end.)

Follow your own trail so you don’t get lost while traversing through interconnected rooms.

Day one pretty much down, still lots to do. It currently only has seven (near-identical) rooms that loop around.

WIP can be played here (it is beatable, and there is no randomization going on.)

Use WASD or arrow keys to move and select options, and E or Space to pick options.

I Love the Idea ! :)

(Untitled)

I have finally managed to make the physic work the way I wanted it. This will be a fighting game where you shape your only attack.

Rendering is a go!

After a good night’s sleep it’s time to get started on this thing.

Got the basic renderer up, and functional.
